Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Hebrews 12
12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD,
Our God,
How Excellent,
How Wonderful,
How Pure and Holy is Your Name Over All The Earth!
Ancient Of Days,
Rock of Ages,
King of Kings and Lord of Lords!
You Alone Are worthy of Worship,
For You Alone Are The One True God!
Together We Pray
That You Will Bring Peace To Our World.
We Pray That You Will Give Wisdom and Discernment
to The Leaders of Nations.
Anoint Them with the Oil of Your Holy Spirit,
That They May See The World Situation with Your Eyes,
And Make Their Decisions in Accordance With Your Will.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

Proverbs 11
11A false balance is an abomination to the Lord,
but an accurate weight is his delight.
2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace;
but wisdom is with the humble.
3 The integrity of the upright guides them,
but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them.
4 Riches do not profit in the day of wrath,
but righteousness delivers from death.
5 The righteousness of the blameless keeps their ways straight,
but the wicked fall by their own wickedness.
6 The righteousness of the upright saves them,
but the treacherous are taken captive by their schemes.
7 When the wicked die, their hope perishes,
and the expectation of the godless comes to nothing.
8 The righteous are delivered from trouble,
and the wicked get into it instead.
9 With their mouths the godless would destroy their neighbours,
but by knowledge the righteous are delivered.
10 When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices;
and when the wicked perish, there is jubilation.
11 By the blessing of the upright a city is exalted,
but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
12 Whoever belittles another lacks sense,
but an intelligent person remains silent.
13 A gossip goes about telling secrets,
but one who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a confidence.
14 Where there is no guidance, a nation* falls,
but in an abundance of counsellors there is safety.
15 To guarantee loans for a stranger brings trouble,
but there is safety in refusing to do so.
16 A gracious woman gets honour,
but she who hates virtue is covered with shame.*
The timid become destitute,*
but the aggressive gain riches.
17 Those who are kind reward themselves,
but the cruel do themselves harm.
18 The wicked earn no real gain,
but those who sow righteousness get a true reward.
19 Whoever is steadfast in righteousness will live,
but whoever pursues evil will die.
20 Crooked minds are an abomination to the Lord,
but those of blameless ways are his delight.
21 Be assured, the wicked will not go unpunished,
but those who are righteous will escape.
22 Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout
is a beautiful woman without good sense.
23 The desire of the righteous ends only in good;
the expectation of the wicked in wrath.
24 Some give freely, yet grow all the richer;
others withhold what is due, and only suffer want.
25 A generous person will be enriched,
and one who gives water will get water.
26 The people curse those who hold back grain,
but a blessing is on the head of those who sell it.
27 Whoever diligently seeks good seeks favour,
but evil comes to the one who searches for it.
28 Those who trust in their riches will wither,*
but the righteous will flourish like green leaves.
29 Those who trouble their households will inherit wind,
and the fool will be servant to the wise.
30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,
but violence* takes lives away.
31 If the righteous are repaid on earth,
how much more the wicked and the sinner!

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

(Hebrews 12)
12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
One of my students was surprised that I also teach adults. "Which do you prefer?" the child asked me. When I told him that I prefer to teach children, he asked me "Why?"
My answer made him laugh out loud:
"Because adults think they KNOW EVERYTHING ALREADY!"
Playing an instrument requires equal portions of three elements: Theory, Technique, and Performance. Music publishers have caught onto this, and so publish three different books, one for each element. This is so that the parents have to buy THREE books every grade per student, and keeps the publisher in business. Meanwhile, the adult instruction books combine these three elements into an "All-In-One" course because they must KNOW that adults will not put up with this nonsense. I use the "Adult Book" for all my kids because, even though the music is the same, it doesn't contain silly cartoons and other distractions. The kids find it somewhat humorous that I assign the "Adult Book" for them. The parents are happy because they only have to buy ONE book per student.
One aspect, Technique, is only accomplished through exercises. Perhaps the most useful book of exercises is loved by the kids and despised by adults. This is a book written in 1873 by Charles-Louis Hanon called The Virtuoso Pianist in 60 Exercises. The kids like it because it is repetitive and easily memorized. The adults hate it because it is repititive and so, BORING. To those students who also take Sports or Karate lessons, I explain that Hanon is like Katas, like sparring, or like the exercises they do before going out on the field. To the kids, this makes sense, but the adults aren't buying it. And that's why I would rather teach kids! I myself do Hanon 1-39 every day before I play actual Music.
In today's Passage from the Book of Hebrews, we are instructed to "Fix Our Eyes Upon Jesus, The Author and Finisher of Our Faith.". Like playing an instrument, Prayer requires the three elements. Theory, in music, is not just reading notes. Theory involves the structure, harmonies, melodies, and science behind music, what goes together and what doesn't. One can get by without being able to read music, but you can't do it without at least a rudimentary inner knowledge of Theory. In this passage, the Author of Hebrews tells us WHO we are Praying to and Who enables us, Jesus, the Author and Fiisher of Our Faith. We may not be able to read Latin, Greek, or Hebrew, but we know the basic principles of our Faith and Who is the Author.
All the Theory in the World won't help without "Technique". The only way to develop Technique is to Practice. That means doing it every day until you develop muscle memory and skill. Like "Hanon", praying should be a habit. Unlike the adult approach to Hanon, it should not be repetitive and boring, but something approached as a child would: a challenge, something to develop skill, and something that can be learned anew. "Fixing Our Eyes upon Jesus" is like doing Hanon. Praying is an exercise that needs to be focused, practiced, and repeated.
Finally, we have Performance. This is the human element, the emotions, and the artist's interpretation of the music. This analogy can be stretched a bit to be about Prayer. Some world religions have amazing performances, but they are not to the One True God, so they have the wrong "Theory" behind them. Others have the Theory and the Technique right, but the Performance is lackluster and without the personal touch. Then there are those who have difficulty praying, even though they have it in their hearts to pray, and know the "Theory", but have not made a habit of prayer, never exercised that particular "muscle" and fall down on "Technique". In Paul's letters, there are many Sports analogies, and here in Hebrews we see another author's exhortation to Patience, Endurance, and Faithfulness.
And so, even if we claim we are too busy to pray, or even if it might seem like a chore at first, think of it as music. You can't go wrong with music!
