Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

3 I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. 4 Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. 5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.

3 I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. 4 Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. 5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.

Recently, Don Henley of the Rock band "The Eagles" appeared before Congress. Even though he receives royalties from You Tube when an excerpt of his music is played, He wanted Congress to clamp down on anyone who didn't get "permission" before playing his songs. This was because Rick Beato, one of my favorite Online Music Teachers, had shown a You Tube Video called "What Makes This Song Great" featuring one of the Eagles' songs. It was a breathless glowing tribute to Don Henley's incredible talent, but for some reason, Don was offended at the use of his song and decided to make a federal case out of it.

Chrissy Hynde, of the Band "The Pretenders" faced a similar issue when Rush Limbaugh used the bass line of one of her songs as bumper music. Chrissy, however, allowed Rush's use of her song because her Dad loved the program and listened every day. I don't know which Licensing Organizations either Don or Chrissy belong to, but you can bet they are both compensated for the use of their music. Once a song is licensed, the artist loses control over who or who does not use their song, as long as the license is purchased by the user.

Internet Access had made holding onto "Intellectual Property" almost impossible. The stuff is out there, and the click of a mouse transfers it to another page. I go through this every day, choosing images for this thread. Some publishers put a watermark on their images to discourage others from using them. One particular company emblazons "THOU SHALT NOT STEAL" across the faces of their images. Others, while lovely illustrations, link back to a very litigious non-christian sect and could cause trouble for me or for Free Republic. And, finally, there are those marked "Getty Images" which are forbidden on this site.

This morning, as I was setting up the Thread, I posted the first image. It went in fine. Then I posted the second. Not visible on the thumbnail, but quite visible on the review page, was the watermark "THOU SHALT NOT STEAL" (GOOD SALT) Yikes! I went back and chose another. Upon review I noticed that it linked back to The Watchtower. Oh No! Not that! So I chose a third, and there was the GOOD SALT watermark again. Grrrrr. Finally, I chose a fourth picture and it stayed. I was finally able to post the thread.

It is interesting, because in today's greeting, Paul mentions two ladies, Lois and Eunice. These were Timothy's Mother and Grandmother. These ladies were Jewish, but from their names, we can infer that they were influenced by Greek Culture. People like that were called "Hellenized Jews" and had been a part of Hebrew Culture since Alexander the Great. This is further evidenced by the fact that Lois had been married to a Greek man, gave their son Timothy a Greek name and had not circumcised him as an infant. While some may consider this a great lapse on their part, it seems that Lois and Eunice raised the boy Timothy in piety and faith, and taught him the Scriptures diligently. It would also seem from the context, that Lois and Eunice came to Faith in Christ before Timothy did, and brought him into the fold. For this, Lois and Eunice earned several references in Scripture and are consided (Uppercase Capital S) Saints in both the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Churches.

Parenting is a Ministry as much as being a Pastor or Preacher. In fact, it may be even more important. Before I ever knew about The Ten Commandments, I knew it was wrong to steal because of my parents' teaching. As an artist and composer, I would not want anyone stealing MY stuff, so I am very careful about what I choose to put on my Thread. Even though the Watchtower, "GOOD SALT", or Getty probably wouldn't make the effort to sue me or take me before Congress, I just DON'T WANT to use their images if it is considered "Stealing". I don't want to do it, even if is is without immediate consequences. And for that, I thank my Mom and Dad. It all starts in the Family!
