Ever wonder why you really are given Ashes today, and walk around with that smudge on your forehead?
Ever wonder why?, when you saw people with those smudges walking around...
This YouTube video explains how and what Ashes represent beginning in the Old Testament, traced through into the New Testament with Jesus and his disciples and why it is an important practice of our Faith for today.
And it goes much deeper than just "Ashes to Ashes, dust to dust"

If you've been away from Mass since Covid, today is a great day to start again.
Today begins the penitential season of the Christian calendar. As the video explains, today God calls us back to him, to go through these 40 days of forgiveness with him.
Actually, anyone can go to an Ashes only Wednesday service.
Most parishes have an evening Mass, or even just a service for distributing ashes.

You should ask the religion mod to declare this to be a caucus thread.

I can't....
The speaker says the word Protestant a few times...
and not in a derogatory way, mind you...
So the opportunity for Protestants to object to anything
in this post must be allowed.
But I don't see how this is objectionable to anyone...
It's Ash Wednesday, and there are Protestant Faith's that observe this day as well...
Did you watch the video?

I aint gonna watch a catholic propaganda video about Mardi Gras or Ash Wednesday or Lent or much of anything to do with catholicism. My interest is in biblical basis of stuff and there’s very little of it when it comes to modern catholicism.
I’ll just redirect from this thread built by guys who like to argue about fables and superstitions.
“Neither give heed to fables ... which minister [present] questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.” (1 Tim. 1:4.)

I asked because I thought you had an objection to something in the post content.
There isn't any.
Now, as you clearly stated, having a general, overall disdain for anything Catholic...
well then no, of course this Ash Wednesday post would not be of interest to you.

That’s kind of the problem, that without caucus protection then anyone with a general disdain for catholicism or even christianity can just post.
Oh well, best of luck with all that.

TODAY, Ash Wednesday, is DEFINITELY a day we
understand, unmistakably, and we call to mind that:
WE ALL have sinned, and fallen short of the Glory of God.
Calling out unrepentant sinners on this day will not help us...
We focus on reconciling our own selves - into God's forgiveness.

And there we go.
No rational or charitable discussion, just nasty mudslinging.
What could you possibly have against the day of repentance?

***Not much. I just have issues with the catholic church. Naturally, you don’t see it that way, preferring instead to prop up a straw argument. One of many associated with keeping the catholic approach to things.

Just like Daniel who was greatly beloved ...
- 3 And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:
- 4 And I prayed unto the Lord my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;
- 5 We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:
- 6 Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.

" Just like Daniel who was greatly beloved ... 3 And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes: 4 And I prayed unto the Lord my God, and made my confession," And indeed, and who today would thus bemoan the spiritual declension manifested both by a system whose distinctive teachings are not manifest in the only wholly inspired substantive authoritative record of what the NT church believed (which is Scripture, in particular Acts through Revelation, which best shows how the NT church understood the gospels), and which system manifestly considers even proabortion, proLGBTQ public figures (despite ashen foreheads) as well as cultic devotees as members in life and in death;
As well as saving faith being reduced to mere professions and or denials of core essentials.

I don’t wonder ‘cause we don’t do any or those things. Or Lent. Again ... more made-up stuff, not Scripture.
