And, just for the record, I went to an awesome concert of my Nephew’s Band (The Quins) last night. Their Opening Act (”Over the Bridge”) had a REAL SAXOPHONE player. It was an old tenor and made the evening for me!

Forty years ago, two of my sisters, three other musicians, and I, were in a Christian Rock Band called "SALT". We played mostly original music, with some Contemporary Christian Song Covers, and Worship Music. We had an interesting line-up: Lead Guitar, Bass, Rhythm Guitar, Keyboard, Drums, and a Vibraphone. There was one frequent gig we used to have in a hundred-year-old Grange Hall where we had to haul all of the equipment up a fire escape to the coffee house, which was on the second floor. The Lead Guitarist had built a plywood case for the vibraphone and it weighed over 200 pounds. Getting that case up the fire escape was like a replay of the Laurel and Hardy Classic Movie The Music Box. There must have been angels watching over us, because we never dropped that Vibraphone down the stairs!

When people asked us how we got out name (SALT), we would reply that it was from Colossians 4, the Verse we read today.

Not only does Paul pray for his friends, but he also asks them to pray for him. He isn't shy about asking for prayer as he states his needs. He uses an expression about "seasoning our speech with salt." This doesn't mean "Salty Languange", but rather encouraging a boldness in proclaiming Truth so that we may be effective Witnesses for Christ. Even if that "Salt" brings on the disapproval of the World, we shouldn't be afraid of it. Speaking Truth may sometimes feel like carrying a piano up a huge flight of stairs, as Paul found out more than once. That's why we need to pray for those who minister to us. And so, we have yet another lesson of HOW to pray rather than WHAT to pray.

Flute. Got a good story. I joined the Marines as a tuba player (marched 4 years of Drum Corps) at a time I needed to get away from saxophone.

A Drill Instrucor found out, and asked me, 'You play flute?'
Yes, Sir!
Flute's a very MANly instrument, isn't it?
Yes, Sir!
He kept on giving me shit, and I finally shut him up by saying, Sir, this Private auditioned on Tuba, sir!

My sister took Flute lessons (at my suggestion) from John Payne in Brookline, MA. Are you familiar with him? He played with Van Morisson on Astral Weeks, and was on SNL, Johnny Carson, and other shows with Van, Bonnie Raitt, and some other great bands.

I have lost touch with him, but he is still teaching flute and sax as far as I know.

I have no idea if he plays Tuba!
