Mexico’s Indigenous Purepecha knock down statues of Spanish colonial-era priest
NBC NEWS ^ | Feburary 15, 2022 | ap

Activists from Mexico’s Purepecha people used axes and sledgehammers Monday to knock down statues of their ancestors being forced to haul and work stones by a colonial-era Spanish priest.

The Purepechas have objected to the statues since they were erected in 1995 in the capital of western Michoacán state, Morelia, and have repeatedly called for them to be taken down.

The life-size statues depict Spanish priest Fray Antonio de San Miguel ordering one nearly naked Purepecha to cut a stone block, while another is depicted hauling a stone away on his back.

A fourth figure in the group, known as the “Statue of the Builders,” represents an anonymous Spanish town planner standing nearby holding papers.

The Supreme Indigenous Council of Michoacán said the statues glorified the brutal exploitation of their ancestors, who continued to resist the Spanish after the rival Aztec empire to the east fell to the conquistadores in 1521.

“2022 marks 500 years since the conquest and invasion of Michoacán that occurred in June 1522,” the council said in a statement. “During the invasion of what is today Michoacán, the Spanish enslaved thousands of Indigenous people.”

“Five hundred years after the invasion of Michoacán, the Indigenous people continue to resist and fight as our grandfathers did.”

The council distributed photos of some of the statues knocked to the ground, with activists smashing them to bits.

I know what is behind this, come on we all do. They angry because they want abortion to be legal and what is the only force stopping them? If it wasn't for the Catholic church they would still be doing human sacrifice to Quetzalcoatl now they want to throw out God and bring back human sacrifice to Quetzalcoatl.

One of my best friends is from Morelia. She loves the United States.

Actually, if they weren't part of the ruling Aztec, they had a better chance of departing this earth as a human sacrifice to Quetzalcoatl.

It is estimated that the Aztec butchered over 50,000 captives in this manner over a mere two week period to dedicate their main temple a little more than a generation before Cortez showed up. Charming people, the Aztec.

I don’t know that I would blame South Americans for trying to find what’s left if their heritage.

I’ve always found it somewhat amusing that the US is so publicly ridiculed while Spain gets a complete pass and the bastard South Americans embrace a Catholic and Spanish culture that was never theirs until conquest.

“It is estimated that the Aztec butchered over 50,000 captives”

Where did they get those 50,000 people? They went out and conquered all over the place down there to find them. It was not their own people.
Now, women are demanding to go into a “clinic” and kill their own baby. Just the thought of it makes me want to barf.

I could give ‘em something even better to knock off: never speak another word of Spanish, ever.

Agreed. I find it amazing that those who resent their ‘Spanish Overlords’ still speak Spanish.

They need to go back to their own language.

People quickly forget that it was not Cortez and 300 odd men who felled the most powerful empire on the continent. It was Cortez, his 300 odd men and massive assistance from the indigenous survivors of Aztec butchery.

All wearing clothes and using tools contributed by Western Civilization. Not a single Indigenous tool or garment in sight.

Oh, I don't know. I think it's part of a certain kind of awakening of all the people of the world brought about by the Information Age. Education and knowledge--and the power that results therefrom--have brought the light of information to all the dark places of the world and empowered people everywhere.

This was predicted by Jean Respail in his prophetic Le Camp des Saints, in which he clearly recognized what was going on--the truths of which he was forced to recant, just as Galileo was forced to recant the truths which he revealed.

It's very much like the attacks on the Roman Empire by barbaric Germanic tribes--Vandals, Goths, Franks, Burgundians, et al.--as the Roman Empire sank inexorably into the quagmire of decadence. Western Civilization is similarly decadent today and is besieged similarly by barbaric tribes.

Whereas the Roman Empire was confined to Europe and the Mediterranean basin, the West today is global.

Rome collapsed under the weight of its own decadence. The barbarians invaded and conquered what was left and became Rome's heirs. They didn't particularly want to destroy Rome. What they wanted was the advantages of civilization.

The fall of the Roman Empire, of course, was followed by a horrifying dark age.

Whether or not this history will repeat itself, remains to be seen.

Whether or not decadence, once it has afflicted a civilization, can be reversed remains to be seen.

President Donald Trump believed that decadence could be reversed, certainly until it had passed a critical point of no return. In fact, he was so convinced of it that he risked everything--a considerable amount in his case--to save his beloved USA from decay and self-destruction.

When he announced "The party's over; I'm going to clean up Washington," he was declaring war on the decadence that was destroying America. The corrupt parasites who are profiting from America's destruction received his declaration as a threat to their privileges, their ill-gotten wealth, their power, and their ability to parasitize the American People and their decaying nation. These people have no intention of allowing him or anything else to interfere with their power and privileges. The result was years of attacks on him and anyone who, like him, intends to halt the decadence and resulting corruption. The number of Americans willing to tolerate this corruption is a measure of the extent to which decadence has already afflicted America. Whether or not it has reached the critical point of no return remains to be seen.

Whether or not the American People--in fact the people of the civilized world--will awaken to what's going on, reverse the decadence, and lead the world into a bright, beautiful, glorious future of ascendancy--or whether the world will continue to sink into decay, ruin, the collapse of civilization, and a horrifying, world-wide dark age--remains to be seen.

Pray for the defeat of decay and for a renaissance of ascendancy for the entire world.

Pray for the victory of Truth.

I’ve always found it somewhat amusing that ... South Americans embrace a Catholic ... culture that was never theirs until conquest.

The same could be said for the pagan Roman empire (Europe and the British Isles), and every pagan land and island where Catholicism replaced paganism.

you point out the sad truth.

The only reason these people are alive and complaining today is that their ancestors were not slaughtered, but instead enslaved.

Spain doesn’t get a pass at all, we just don’t hear about the attacks on Spanish culture nearly as much since the focus in the US is on attacking the Anglo settlement efforts here in North America. Ironically, the so-called “black legends” characterized the Spanish colonial conquest and administration as unfathomably brutal in comparison to English and Dutch colonizing efforts. primarily it was a geopolitical effort — the Dutch and English being Protestant (and while France was primarily Catholic, French Protestants served an outsized role in France’s exploratory efforts, aside from in Canada/New France), and Spain being the Catholic odd one out in the new world, the religious difference was a convenient point to tar Spain on, while the aspersions cast on the Dutch for example are harder to understand to modern sensibilities and have been largely forgotten. In reality none of the colonial administrations were as brutal by policy as most people seem to believe. Instances of brutality were not uncommon but they weren’t in line with official policy. Things like slavery, execution, torture that are held up today as examples of European brutality were common the world over back then, by native people as much as anyone else.

While the Anglo history of settlement here in North America is being screeched at by the left with increased intensity in recent years, so the Spanish conquests in the south are as well. This article highlights just another example of the erasure the left has been foisting on the history of every country.

O.K. Purepechas, get rid of your “european” clothes, give up your “european” medicine, rip up your “european” plumbing, and, by they way, drain away any Spanish blood you idiots may have flowing through your veins.

Gee, I thought “Anglos” were responsible for all the oppression of indigenous peoples.

Turns out, the Spanish (Hispanics) were doin’ stuff too.

I’ve read both the Conquest of Mexico by Bernal Diaz and Parkman’s history of the same. Great works!

Should be required reading in high schools everywhere,
Along with THE CONSPIRACY OF PONTIAC.
