Bless the LORD, Oh My Soul,
and let All That is Within Me Bless His Most Holy Name!
Abba Father, Blessed Are You,
Oh LORD, Our God!
King of the Universe,
Ancient of Days,
Rock of All Ages!
It is You, and You Alone, Who Created All Things,
And You Alone Who Know The End from The Beginning,
And the Beginning from The End.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

Ephesians 1

(Thanksgiving and Prayer)

15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, 16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit[f] of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

Steve, my Bass Teacher (2011) got a gig on a brand new cruise ship that crossed the Atalantic, and then cruised the Mediterranean, stopping in Egypt, Turkey, the Greek Islands, and Italy. He was gone for over a month and I missed him a great deal. When he returned he shared pictures of all the places he had visited, and it closely resembled the Journey of St. Paul. One of the biggest attractions, in modern-day Turkey, is the ruin of Ephesus. The Theater, in which Paul was involved in a riot, is still there, an open-air amphitheater suitable for performances. Paul got into a lot of trouble in Ephesus, due to the fact that it was the cult center for the Greek Goddess Artemis, also known as Diana. The Temple of Artemis was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and contributed a great deal to the economy of the city. Not only did the Temple stimulate Tourism, Seaport Business, Restaurants, Lodging and Hospitality, it also was an incredible stimulus for the Arts. Pageants, Plays, and Lectures flourished in the great Theater, Sports, Races, and Gladiators attracted in the Arena, and Sculptors made a fortune carving and casting replicas of the Statue of Artemis in the likeness of the huge one in the Temple.

Ephesus was such a famous tourist destination that it was where Cleopatra met Marc Antony for the first time, sparking a love affair that changed History and brought about the rise of Augustus.

Then along came Paul.

Imagine if somebody showed up in New York City and convinced a lot of people that The Statue of Libery was evil. All the tour boats and souvenir shops would lose business and the economy would suffer. But The Statue of Liberty isn't the only thing NYC has to offer. It is not the central driving force of the city's economy. The Statue of Artemis, which the Ephesians believed had dropped out of the sky fully formed, was the center of the economy in Ephesus, and so, this fellow Paul was a real problem.

Demetrius the Silversmith, who had a nice little business making Artemis statues, stirred up a riot to get rid of Paul. This is all exciting reading in the Book of Acts. Eventually, Paul moved on, but left behind a thriving church in the famous pagan city.

Paul, as usual, opens his Letter to the Ephesians with a prayer. It is a Prayer of Thanksgiving which morphs into a Doxology declaring the greatness of God. Paul is filled with grtitude that the church he founded in that city not only survived, but was flourishing.

All of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World (except for the Great Pyramid) have crumbled to dust. The Temple of Artemis is a ruin, and the huge statue is long gone. There is not even a remnant of it (a la the last scene in"Planet of the Apes!"), and Demetrius the Silversmith would be a total unknown had he not been mentioned in the Book of Acts. But the Church, meaning the Body of Christ all over the World, is still here, and the Prayers of Paul are still with us in the Bible.
