Father Anthony Buś, the pastor of St Stanislaus Kostka Parish, Chicago, who also wears the cassock, published a December 13 letter on his parish website informing that [rigid] Cardinal Cupich “forbade” to celebrate the Novus Ordo facing God although this is the norm established by Vatican II and the Novus Ordo rubrics.
Strangely, Buś had asked Cupich for “permission” to celebrate Mass towards God although Cupich has no right to forbid this. Buś announced that he will comply. He explained to clueless Cupich that facing God has a millennia-old significance and that some bishops have begun regularly doing this. Cupich had the cheek to "refuse" the request.
In the face of what he calls recently enacted "liturgical changes," Buś observes that many faithful are being "cruelly demoralised." He knows "for certain" that "there will be no place for our voices in the so-called ‘Synod on Synodality.’"
PillarCatholic.com writes that Buś was directed to remove the letter and that Cupich summoned him. The Mount Everest of hypocrisy: Cupich who is breaking canon and liturgical law told Buś that his letter might have violated canonical prohibitions on inciting disobedience against a diocesan bishop - a paragraph that has never been invoked since Canon Law was published in 1983.
Going along with this charade, Buś regretted on January 17 on social media that his letter was interpreted as a "near violation of Canon Law.” He announced that he will go into retreat for about ten days to reflect on his priesthood.
