Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Acts 13

13  1 Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul. 2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Dear Father in Heaven,
Blessed Are You, Oh LORD,
Our God,
King of the Universe,
Ancient of Days,
Our Rock and Our Redeemer
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are Holy,
You Alone Are Righteous and Just,
And You Alone Are The One True God.
How Wonderful Are Your Precepts,
How Precious Is Your WORD.
How Eternal and Sure Are Your Promises.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Massachusetts is "set up" a lot differenly than Florida, and, what was an easy task every year (the Recital) is next to impossible in this neck of the woods. In Florida, most of my students lived in gated communities that had a beautiful clubhouse. The clubhouse was closed to the general public, but was open to rental by residents of the comminuty. It was an easy task to assign a resident to reserve the clubhouse, and have each student pay a small fee to perform in the recital in order to cover the cost of the rental. Parents brought "pot-luck" snacks and desserts, and one parent was always assigned to make coffee and bring soda pop for the kids. The recital gave each student a nice manageable set of songs, was two hours long with an intermission, and was a fun time (no stress or stage fright!). We treated it as a party rather than a competition. I remember describing it in this thread, many years ago.

Massachusetts is different. People live far apart, and there are no venues available for the event. And so, I've been teaching here for over five years without a recital.

Two of my families (with two kids each) have suggested a recital just involving the four students, in a beautiful back-yard patio setting with a BBQ, hosted by one of the families. Since it is just in a back yard, we can use an electric piano and will not need a sound system. That's good because I no longer own a PA.

However, Finn, who is 11 years old and very much into Hi-Tech, started gushing:

"Great! We can rent a tent, a stage, tables, and a bluetooth sound system and I can direct "Alexa" to divert the signal to the outdoor speakers and play music from Spotify while the audience is taking their seats, and you can bring your bass and amp and accompany me on the piano, and you can do the singing as I play "Piano Man" by Billy Joel!" (I am not making this up)

I sighed and explained to Finn that I would be happy to sing "Piano Man" with him (even though the song is about lonliness, depression, and adult beverages), and, sure, I can bring my bass and amp and accompany the kids, but as far as the tent, the tables, the sound system, and Alexa, forget about it. Leave the logistics to ME. YOU just concentrate on getting the song right! Which means..."Start Practicing the Piano!". I give you that one job.

New believers are often eager to plunge into ministry without adequate preparation. Their efforts are often doomed to failure, because they are attempting to minister in their own strength in their own way. Sometimes they even usurp faithful, older servants of God, and leave broken hearts and split churches in their wake. (I saw this happen to a very famous and influential church in Florida, and it was humiliating and disasterous.) The Book of Acts has some incidents where new believers try to jockey themselves into prominence. The story of Simon the Sorcerer, who thought he could buy his way into apostleship, the Seven Sons of Sceva who attempted to do exorcisms without being fully armed in the Spirit, and even the controversy about John Mark, whom Paul felt had leaped into ministry too soon and thus failed him, are prime examples of what can happen to the "unprepared".

In Today's Passage, we learn of the process of preparation for ministry. It involves prayer, fasting, seeking God's opinion on the matter, and, finally, the laying on of hands and the Prayer of Commission. It has been formalized in our modern world as Ordination, and should NEVER happen without Preparation.

The recital will be in May, and I need to prepare! First thing will be to memorize the lyrics to "Piano Man".

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Amen !!! <><

Psalm 34

Of David, when he feigned madness before Abimelech, so that he drove him out, and he went away.

1 I will bless the Lord at all times;
his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
2 My soul makes its boast in the Lord;
let the humble hear and be glad.
3 O magnify the Lord with me,
and let us exalt his name together.

4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me,
and delivered me from all my fears.
5 Look to him, and be radiant;
so your* faces shall never be ashamed.
6 This poor soul cried, and was heard by the Lord,
and was saved from every trouble.
7 The angel of the Lord encamps
around those who fear him, and delivers them.
8 O taste and see that the Lord is good;
happy are those who take refuge in him.
9 O fear the Lord, you his holy ones,
for those who fear him have no want.
10 The young lions suffer want and hunger,
but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.

11 Come, O children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
12 Which of you desires life,
and covets many days to enjoy good?
13 Keep your tongue from evil,
and your lips from speaking deceit.
14 Depart from evil, and do good;
seek peace, and pursue it.

15 The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
and his ears are open to their cry.
16 The face of the Lord is against evildoers,
to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
17 When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears,
and rescues them from all their troubles.
18 The Lord is near to the broken-hearted,
and saves the crushed in spirit.

19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
but the Lord rescues them from them all.
20 He keeps all their bones;
not one of them will be broken.
21 Evil brings death to the wicked,
and those who hate the righteous will be condemned.
22 The Lord redeems the life of his servants;
none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

_OW there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

We pray in particular on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Libya and throughout the Mideast. The members of the oldest of our Christian Communities, some of which date from the days of the Apostles, suffer under cruel, merciless and unrelenting persecution. They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."
