A rather crude reference to the cliche image of poor southern “rednecks”.
That painting - particularly Adam - reminds me of the look you would find in young men from that region back in the 70’s.

He was born around 1500 in Augsburg but did much of his work in England around the time of Henry VIII and Cromwell. There would have been no lack of very poor peasant workers in that time and place.
