Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Acts 9

Aeneas and Dorcas

32 As Peter traveled about the country, he went to visit the Lord’s people who lived in Lydda. 33 There he found a man named Aeneas, who was paralyzed and had been bedridden for eight years. 34 “Aeneas,” Peter said to him, “Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and roll up your mat.” Immediately Aeneas got up. 35 All those who lived in Lydda and Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord.

36 In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (in Greek her name is Dorcas); she was always doing good and helping the poor. 37 About that time she became sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room. 38 Lydda was near Joppa; so when the disciples heard that Peter was in Lydda, they sent two men to him and urged him, “Please come at once!”

39 Peter went with them, and when he arrived he was taken upstairs to the room. All the widows stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them.

40 Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, “Tabitha, get up.” She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up. 41 He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called for the believers, especially the widows, and presented her to them alive. 42 This became known all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord. 43 Peter stayed in Joppa for some time with a tanner named Simon.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Heavenly Father,
How Wonderful You Are!
You Alone Are LORD.
You Alone Are The Most High!
You Alone Are The One True God.
You Make The Streams Run in the Desert,
Water from The Rock,
And Make The Desert Blossom and Bloom Like A Rose.
All Our Abundance Comes From You.
You Are Before All Things,
And In You All Things Hold Together.

We Come Before You in Silent Awe, We Thank You For Your Abundant Provision.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Psalm 23

A Psalm of David.

1 The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures;
he leads me beside still waters;*
3 he restores my soul.*
He leads me in right paths*
for his name’s sake.

4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley,*
I fear no evil;
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff—
they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely* goodness and mercy* shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
my whole life long.*

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Yesterday, I finished the Thread early and went out for my morning walk. As I was walking Penny, I noticed that the aluminum awning over my front doorway had about a foot of snow on it. "That's dangerous," I mused, "But I'm too short to reach it, even with a broom. What was I going to do?" As I walked a little further, I noticed that the older couple next door had not shoveled out yet. The walkway, front stairs, and automobile were still covered in a foot of snow, which meant that nobody had left the house in three days. "I'll have to check on them." I planned, "But I will have to change into boots."

Then I saw my neighbor Don (who is tall) walking his little dog Lola. I asked him aout the awning, and he said he would take Lola home and come back with a ladder.

I had just gotten a Five-Disk CD Changer for $8.00 at the local charity thrift store, and had figured out a way of connecting it to my stereo system (I used to have my own recording studio so I am good at stuff ike that), so I asked Don if he would like to have the self-contained CD player that I had been using ($15.00 at another thrift store) and he said that he would love it, but he didn't have any cd's. That's OK, I have a lot of doubles...Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, and the Stones. "YEAH! I would LOVE that!" he said. "By the way, do you have a sewing machine? I need to fix my pants." "I'll do that for you," I said. "Just bring 'em over when you have a chance."

So then, I brought Penny into the house, washed the salt off her paws, and changed into my heavy snow boots to wade up to my neighbor's door and knock. ("I sure hope they aren't dead in there!" I prayed.) The man came to the door and I asked if everything was OK. It was unusual for them not to be the first ones to shovel out. It turned out that everything was fine, and they had just decided to let it melt by itself. OK! Mission accomplished. I went home, packed up the portable cd player and chose some good cd's for Don just in time for Don to come over with his truck and a ladder and he cleared the snow off the awning. Then I went back into the house, fed the dog, did my Bible reading with breakfast and coffee, and called my little sister to see if she needed a ride anywhere because she doesn't have a car right now. I told her about the Five-Disk CD Changer I got for eight bucks at the Salvation Army, and how I got it to work with my system. "Wow!" she said. "Do they have any more? I need one of those because I have hundreds of CD's that I can't play anymore."

Well I knew there were't any more at "Sallie's" but another charity store nearby had THREE of them. There was a Sony, a JVC, and a Panasonic. They were $15.00 each. We could test them at the store and pick the best one, and I would help hook it up to her system which is similar to mine.

So I drove over to her house and picked her and her 100% disabled hubby, and we went to the Thrift Store. The three CD Changers were there and they all worked. I recommended the JVC, and we went back to her house to install it. On the way home, I dropped off several bags of donations at yet another Thrift Store, and we went to a used record store and hung out with the Youths there who think we are awesome because we actually saw the iconic Classic Rock bands in Concert back-in-the-day. There was a box that said "FREE" and I got a Dylan Album (John Wesley Harding) for free because the cover was a mess. The record inside was fine and played great once I cleaned it up.

Upon coming home, I found out that my nephew's Band was playing at the biggest venue in Boston along with two other bands that had recommended them for the gig. I couldn't imagine attempting Boston Traffic and Parking after a snowstorm, but they were SOLD OUT anyway. And so, last night, I listened to Four Lp's of the "Worlld's Greatest Piano Music Reader's Digest Collection" that I got for a dollar at Sallie's, and cuddled with Penny on the couch. It had been a GOOD day!

This convoluted story, which networks families, friends, neighbors, musicians, thrift stores, charities, and age groups, came to my mind as I read Today's Passage of Scripture. The believers were a community. They looked out for one another. Tabitha ministered to the poor and widows, and sewed garments for them. This was a big thing back then, as there were no sewing machines and sometimes one had to weave one's own cloth and spin one's own thread! Tabitha was a cherished member of the community, and when she died, they were devastated.

Ther are very few stories of the Apostles raising the dead, but this is one of them. Peter had done healing miracles before, but this was way over-the-top. If he attempted this and failed, it could have discredited the entire movement.

And so, Peter dropped to his knees and prayed. And that is what made all the difference.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

"St. Peter Raising Tabitha From The Dead"
Guercino

_ND it came to pass, as Peter passed throughout all quarters, he came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda.

And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy.
And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately.

And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him, and turned to the Lord.

Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.

And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber.

And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them.

Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.

But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive.

And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord.

And it came to pass, that he tarried many days in Joppa with one Simon a tanner.
