The poorly named Large Binocular Telescope Near-infrared Utility with Camera and Integral Field Unit for Extragalactic Research (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large_Binocular_Telescope) is operated by the University of Arizona, the University of Minnesota, the University of Virginia, and Ohio State among others without the involvement of the Vatican. Although the Vatican Advanced Technology Telescope (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vatican_Advanced_Technology_Telescope) is on the same mountain and is also part of the Mount Graham International Observatory (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Graham_International_Observatory) complex, they are different systems and independently funded.
