Ping
I went to mass every day and occasionally, just stopped for a visit.
I was determined...and on one visit...when no one was around...I jumped the rail, knelt respectively and rang those bells.
Hopped back over the railing...and left...
I'm sure God got a good laugh out of it.
So why don’t you become a womyn “priestess”, since you feel so equal?
I believe “altar boys” were adopted from God’s detailed instructions in the Old Testament for building and conducting services in His Temple. These acolytes were specifically to be the sons of the Levi priests.
God is male
The Holy Spirit is male, Jesus is Male, Angels are male, the writers are predominantly male, we are of the family of man.
No one has questioned any of this until (relative) minutes ago (in the historical timeline).
Any denomination that allows women priests and etcetera's are not Christian .... imo.
Since the permission was given in 94, I don’t see too many altar boys anymore. It’s mostly altar girls. The more conservative parishes are an exception on the weekends, but it’s still seems no better than a 50-50 boy-girl split. Of course, the very few Latin Masses permitted in the archdiocese don’t have altar girls or altar women.
Girls drive boys off the alar. That’s a problem
Why can’t they just stay out of boys only? They don’t like it when boys join their athletic events.
If women would go to mass, their husbands and their sons would go. In my Irish Catholic New Yorker extended family and friends the women don’t go to mass. Their families sure don’t go. Now even on Christmas.
I went to a funeral last month of a guy we grew up with - ten kids five girls five boys like everyone in the old neighborhood of formula fed baby boomers
All their spouses and kids sitting in the front few pews. No one with a clue when yo sit, stand, kneel
None of those Catholic women go to mass. None of their families go.
But they’ll talk about how women have to be priests. They’ll insist on the handshake of peace while the consecrated host is on the altar
Women have so much pride. Earthly pride. They ruin things pushing in where they don’t belong, where men need to be in order to be men, they despise masculinity then they insist on defying Church teaching demanding birth control and create a culture that caters to the perpetual 17 year old male selfish, devoid of faith then they drive people away from church.
But they’ll push for altar girls and female priests.
boys are going to be priests or they are not...
if girls are willing to serve on the altar, they should....
I was an Alter Boy, but the problem with today's Catholic Churches is, they are empty.
During my youth and while my kids were growing up, missing Mass on Sunday was not optional, but today, there are fewer Masses in fewer Churches and more empty seats.
Why is anyone arguing about Alter Girls, be grateful that girls want to go to Mass.
I see no religious reason that a girl can not be a server at Mass.
I do see tradition but if the Church is empty, what tradition is being upheld?
I wonder what Jesus Christ would say?
“ missing Mass on Sunday was not optional, but today…”
I’ve got news for you, missing mass on Sunday is still a mortal sin.
And it’s spelled altar, mr altar boy??
Says the one of the most mal-formed Catholic women on the forum. We "should?" What does that even mean...that you get to make up Catholicism as you go, regardless of our dogmas, doctrines texts?
I see you haven't learned a damn thing after all these years. Thanks for reminding to stay out of the religion forum.
Only two altar boys in my parish, and the rest girls.
I wonder why my post #8 was removed. Yes, this is a caucus thread and I discussed what happened in my former church (Episcopal) when women were allowed to become priests, but I am now a Catholic, and have been so for 16 years now. I was hardly in favor of women priests, either.
I first joined FR in the spring of 2000 and this is the first time I’ve had a post removed. (I lost my password after changing email addresses in a computer disaster awhile back, so returned under a new moniker.)
I was an altar boy roughly 60 years ago. I graduated into a seminary and lasted 4 years. In those days all the churches in my neighborhood were always full. Now, not so much. At least half of the servers in my last two parishes are girls. Of the Catholic Church problems we encounter every day, altar girls is so far down the list, it isn’t on the radar screen.

Wow, thanks for the news flash. The Priest I had lunch with today didn't know it was still a mortal sin. Won't he be surprised when I give him your news.
So I misspelled a word, thanx you obnoxious prick.
Is prick spelled correctly, numbnutz?
Many people believe that the Catholic Church is a cultural institution one in which laws and teachings can be ignored and changed by priests
And the congregation
This just isn’t true.
If you were an altar boy how do you not know how it is spelled. I’m not buying it. That’s all.
