Hot-Wiring Egypt
Chabad.org ^ | 2021/12/08 | Tzvi Freeman

Joseph wanted to raise the Egyptians to a higher spiritual and moral plane. So he arranged that they be circumcised. That way, perhaps the exile destined upon his people would be shortened.

The plan backfired. Rather than alleviating the Egyptian exile, Joseph empowered the Egyptians to oppress his people yet more viciously.

Joseph believed he could shortcut the Egyptian exile. We sometimes delude ourselves that we can hot-wire our own darkness.

We imagine we can bring thousands more to Torah, if we just would compromise with electronics on Shabbat. Or that we could achieve so many more mitzvahs, if we just would bend the rules of kosher food and modest dress.

But, as with Joseph, in the long run, these plans end up only feeding the darkness more.

Our job is to illuminate the world in the way of Torah. Torah is light in all its ways. So if Torah does not take you down a path, you know with certainty that it is not a path of light.

Instead, go in the ways of Aaron, who “loved all people and drew them towards the Torah. ”Don’t drag the Torah down to the people. Draw the people up to the Torah.

I don't recall that from Genesis. Is that from some other source?

It seems to be a rabbinical teaching

“I don’t recall that from Genesis. “

If this was done, it was a true overreach on the part of Joseph.

The Egyptians were not in any sense “bought by money” by Joseph or his household.

I seem to recall that within The Law, Hebrews were required to be circumsized, this of course was laid out by Mosaic law.

I figure the Hebraic teachings are like the USSC, with The LAW (Torah) Law books (Talmud) which give precedence to law.

There is the US Constitution, and Precedence which makes the Law muddy and changes meaning subtly year on year, case on case.

Both would say it instructs and sharpens both, but that is a liars game.

Don’t drag the Torah down to the people. Draw the people up to the Torah.

If people were meant to fly they would have been born with wings.

Which goes a long way in explaining why wing-clipping has been the top business enterprise of the dark side since time immemorial.

Can't-Do Cain was not Able. He preferred it that way, but his brother who was Abel made him look bad, so he had to go.

Somewhere along the way somebody realized that killing the soul was much more destructive and devious than killing the body, because most of the victims would never catch on to what had been done to them "in Egypt" so to speak.

I give you the world-famous, legendary prince of peace:

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who announces peace!

The 24/7/365 bondage-for-your-own-good message from the Egyptian establishment is, "Reject any word that's not from around here."

Joseph. In Egypt. As the prime minister.

Ingenious!

"Come fly with US."

DARE MIGHTY THINGS (Mars decoder ring.)

Lots of intel on that parachute. NIGHT and DAY, [DA]RT 58 (חן, נח)...

The "last words" of the Torah:

Deu 34

10. And there has not arisen since in Israel a prophet like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face:
11. In all the signs and the wonders, which the Lord sent him to do in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land:
12. And in all that mighty hand, and in all the great and awesome deeds which Moses performed in the sight of all Israel:

I was just thinking recently about how Jews and we Christians such as myself see many things differently, and also how commandments are infused into every part of Jewish life, or at least it seems to me. If I’m not mistaken, these are everpresent reminders of G-d, and to my impression also, they give life a spiritual and moral order and clarity.

Life looks very different for we who are Christian. In the natural, life isn’t so infused with reminders of G-d, even for many people raised Christian, so it looks highly disordered and lawless, and people are constantly searching around for answers that might work. It’s as though a tornado has gone through a town and left destruction everywhere, and there’s been a little rebuilding afterward, but people are always still struggling to make sense of even a little bit of it their world, much less the whole, and to deal with it all.

That’s where, for we who are Christian, our faith in Christ comes in, bringing spiritual and moral order to all that disorder and destruction. To a Christian believer with a genuine faith, meaning faith in G-d over human pride as it says in Habakkuk, life then becomes infused with reminders of Him everywhere, yet still in somewhat different ways from the Jewish faith, of course. It is about for us asking what’s G-d’s will on everything, and laboring to grow the supernatural gift of faith. The faith is exemplified in faithful people whose stories are told in the Tanakh.

Even though we don’t keep the law, as we’ve been instructed not to for various reasons, when we read the Tanakh, most of us, I believe, are continually in awe of it. I remember how amazed I was at reading about the different sacrifices and offerings, and the holy days. They definitely stir us very deeply and leave a very strong impression on us spiritually, so much so that some Christians today seek to observe the holy days while remaining Christians, as you probably are aware, because we already do so imaginatively. Certainly I know they’re often in my thoughts.
