[Catholic Caucus] Deemed "satanist", the musician Anna von Hausswolff deprogrammed in Paris after Nantes under pressure from Catholics

A hundred traditional Catholics prevented Tuesday evening the holding in Nantes of a concert by a Swedish artist they consider "satanist". In the process, the Parisian church of Saint-Eustache also canceled the performance of Anna von Hausswolff scheduled for Thursday.

The "Hail Mary" got the better of rock. The Parisian church of Saint-Eustache announced this Wednesday on its site that it has canceled the performance of Anna von Hausswolff scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening, it is a group of a hundred fundamentalist Catholics who had prevented the holding of a concert organized by the Lieu unique, cultural center in Nantes. The reason: the Swedish artist is considered "satanist" by the handful of demonstrators.

From 8 p.m. in Nantes, they gathered on Tuesday in front of the doors of the Notre Dame de Bon-Port church where the concert was to take place. Deployed as a cordon in front of the different entrances, they began to sing "Hail Mary" or "Holy Mary mother of God, pray for us poor sinners". All under the dumbfounded eyes of the public. Shortly before 9:30 p.m., the organizers announced the cancellation of the concert.

"A handful of intolerant radicals is causing the cancellation of a concert in ND du Bon-Port scheduled in agreement with the bishopric," tweeted Bassem Asseh, first deputy mayor of Nantes. “Nothing authorized the expression of such censorship. This is not our conception of a social project based on dialogue and cultural openness, ” he added. The concert, scheduled for 9:30 p.m., had been sold out for days.

According to the blog "Salon beige" which claims to be run by "lay Catholics" - it is particularly opposed to marriage for all and abortion -, the concert was initially to be held in the Saint-Clément church, "which welcomes the traditional mass in Nantes ”. Before being moved to the Notre Dame du Bon-Port church, a place considered more open. "This concert arouses strong protests from the faithful because the works, titles, covers and clips testify to works rooted in Gothic, even Satanism" , explains its author. On the music side, Anna von Hausswolff's new album, taken from a live performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival, is expected on January 14.

Can someone post some evidence of this performer being Satanic?

I agree that a goth rock artIst isn't my cup of tea in a Church.

And secular isn't always saintly.

But it isn't always satanic either.

It's incredibly poorly translated, which is typical for Google Translate.

It is a starting place, nothing more. A live human being should adjust it a bit before publishing.

Here’s a review from 2018 that mentions the satanic themes of this woman’s work...

“On Anna von Hausswolff’s fourth album, her gothic, bewitched art turns toward grand doom. Dead Magic is a five song, 47-minute record that her career has been building towards, amounting to her most majestic and complete work to date.
The album revolves around two monster tracks: opener “The Truth, The Glow, The Fall” is a deliberately-paced 12-minute processional, shrouded in satanic, folkloric mystery;”

I don’t want to know how Hausswolff is supposed to translate.

Thank you.

I read a few other articles about her and her music. I listened to some of it...meh.

If she's a Satanist, so is Robert Johnson and many blues musicians, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, the Eagles, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, The Rolling Stones, Dio, Alice Cooper, Blue Öyster Cult, every metal band out of Scandinavia, and Michael Jackson...and we can include Wagner and Berlioz, too.

Rush isn't Satanic but Neil's lyrics aren't pro-God. That said I love Rush and still go to Church.

The jury is still out on Slayer but I never saw max americana do the Linda Blair thing.

Again, I'm all for keeping sacred music in Catholic churches and keeping rock out. But if you're going to call someone a Satanist, you need more than a goth organ album. Otherwise, we look silly and when a REAL Satanist comes along people will miss it.

“The jury is still out on Slayer but I never saw max americana do the Linda Blair thing.”

I only saw them once and that’s at the Big Four. Thought they were overrated and had multiple times to see them on tour the past 30 years, but thought they were not worth wasting my $20. I spoke to a few roadies here in L.A. and they said it was just BS. No altars, pentagrams in their tour bus.

“every metal band out of Scandinavia”

you mean black metal? Most of them I listened to from VENOM to Bathory etc. You know those goat heads on the albums LOL, and no I didnt start wearing cloaks and making an altar in my apartment with a goat head. That’s stupid. I have all the CD’s. The best part was when Cronos from Venom, which is followed by every “satanist” on earth tells people they were just joking with the satan stuff because they want you to buy their records. That was classic.

Well, I do know that you could accidentally summon demons with Led Zeppelin’s first album.

Tom Araya is Catholic, but Kerry King busts his balls about it.

Nicko McBrain is a born-again Christian, and plays songs like Hallowed Be Thy Name and The Number of the Beast.

There are legitimate satanic black metal bands, like Behemoth, Watain, Gorgoroth/Gaahl, Burzum, and tons of others. Also satanic death metal bands like Deicide, who I’ve seen once.

Indeed, I believe Nicko became born-again with former Anthrax guitarist now master watch craftsman Danny Spitz.

I also believe Dave Lombardo left Slayer, in part, because of King.

Kerry is an ass and, while nobody is perfect, I want to be far away when he comes before Our Lord.

I also saw Deicide once in a metal fest whose name I forgot, Came from the same studio as Cannibal Corpse whom I’ve seen twice as a stand-alone. There are born-again Christians who played for Deicide and I’ve listened to a LOT of black metal stuff.

Even had an ex-GF who went thru my CD’s and asked “umm, why are there many goat heads and pentagrams on your collection? Are you like satanic (in valley girl voice)”.
