Thomas Carroll, superintendent of schools for the Archdiocese of Boston, told the Register the bill’s proposed anti-discrimination provisions would be ‘catastrophic.’
BOSTON — Catholic school officials are clamoring for changes to a proposed federal stimulus bill, saying that federal nondiscrimination rules may drive them out of early childhood education.
“The rules as they’re written now would be catastrophic. It basically would force us to pull out of preschool and child care,” said Thomas Carroll, superintendent of schools for the Archdiocese of Boston, in a Nov. 30 telephone interview with the Register.
At issue is a portion of President Joe Biden’s “Build Back Better” bill that would provide about $400 billion in federal funds for child care and pre-kindergarten.
Catholic and other religious schools would theoretically be able to receive such funds — but they might also have to comply with federal rules prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and religion, among other things.
“It’s putting religious institutions in a position in which, if they want to get the money, or to accept money that goes to parents, they have to enter a Faustian bargain in which they agree to basically give up their faith. In the Catholic Church, we have 2,000 years of Church teaching. We’re not giving it up to get federal money for child care or pre-K, Carroll said during a roundtable discussion in Washington on Wednesday, Dec. 1, sponsored by U.S. Senate Republicans.

Biden, such a good Catholic...at least there are no mean tweets.
Any religious institution that needs government money to stay open isn’t a church anymore.
FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument
Patriots are reminded that the only powers that the states have expressly constitutionally given the feds to protect people on the basis of race and sex is limited to voting rights issues, evidenced by the 15th and 19th Amendments, free exercise of religion famously protected by 1st Amendment.
1st Amendment:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
"15th Amendment:
Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.
Section 2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation."
"19th Amendment:
The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.
Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation."
"From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added]." —United States v. Butler, 1936.
So Build Back Better is just another example of unconstitutional Democratic and RINO legislation imo.
Insights welcome.
The ultimate remedy for unconstitutionally big, alleged election-stealing, Democratic Party-pirated federal and state governments that manufacture crises to oppress everybody under their boots...
Consider that all the states can effectively “secede” from the unconstitutionally big federal government by doing the following.
Patriots need to primary federal and state elected officials who don't send voters email ASAP that clearly promises to do the following.
Federal and state lawmakers need to promise in their emails to introduce resolutions no later than 100 days after start of new legislative sessions that proposes an amendment to the Constitution to the states, the amendment limited to repealing the 16th and ill-conceived 17th Amendments (16&17A).
In fact, I challenge the states to ram the repeal amendment for 16&17A through the ratification process faster than Nancy Pelosi irresponsibly rammed unconstitutional Obamacare through the House.
Again, insights welcome.
Just don’t take the money.
Just another hate crime against Christians - a legal hate crime.
If the Catholic Church were serious, they would set a date to close all facilities that provide any non-religious service such Catholic Charities, all hospitals, all Catholic colleges, all Catholic schools and any other services they provide. Proclaim loudly why they can’t abide by the government diktats. Tell people to call their local, state, and federal representatives. But they won’t. The Church will roll over.
