Jeremiah 16:19-21

19  Lord, my strength and my fortress,
    my refuge in time of distress,
to you the nations will come
    from the ends of the earth and say,
“Our ancestors possessed nothing but false gods,
    worthless idols that did them no good.

20  Do people make their own gods?
    Yes, but they are not gods!”

21  “Therefore I will teach them—
    this time I will teach them
    my power and might.
Then they will know
    that my name is the Lord.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

I keep thinking that I have covered all the Prayers in the Old Testament, and then another one shows up in my Devotional Reading! Fear not...we will get to the New Testament eventually, and in the meantime, I am taking copious notes. Who knew there were so many prayers in the Bible!

If Jeremiah were alive today, he would be banned from Social Media. In fact, when his scribe Baruch laboriously wrote down every word of prophecy that came from Jeremiah's lips, and presented to the king, he witnessed the scroll being ripped and burned, one sheet at a time. There was no back-up file, so Baruch had to write it all over again. (I know what THAT'S like!) I can only imagine how frustrated Jeremiah was, and it is reflected in his personal prayer life. Like Abraham, Moses, David, Daniel, and Isaiah, Jeremiah was totally transparent before God. He shared his ugly thoughts as well as his beautiful ones, as we shall see.

In this prayer, Jeremiah begins with Praise and receives instruction from God. No matter what you will be praying about, it is wise to ALWAYS open with Praise and Thanksgiving. It is not because God needs your praise. He Knows Who He Is and says so in His Name : I AM WHO I AM. He doesn't need our praise, but we need to praise HIM.

When you think of Who God IS, then Praise will just happen. Always approach the Throne with Awe, and you will be in harmony with the angels.
