Governor Bradford of Massachusetts made this first Thanksgiving Proclamation three years after the Pilgrims settled at Plymouth:
"Inasmuch as the great Father has given us this year an abundant harvest of Indian corn, wheat, peas, beans, squashes, and garden vegetables, and has made the forests to abound with game and the sea with fish and clams, and inasmuch as He has protected us from the ravages of the savages, has spared us from pestilence and disease, has granted us freedom to worship God according to the dictates of our own conscience.
In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you! 1 Thes. 5:18
Now I, your magistrate, do proclaim that all ye Pilgrims, with your wives and ye little ones, do gather at ye meeting house, on ye hill, between the hours of 9 and 12 in the daytime, on Thursday, November 29th, of the year of our Lord one thousand six hundred and twenty three and the third year since ye Pilgrims landed on ye Pilgrim Rock, there to listen to ye pastor and render thanksgiving to ye Almighty God for all His blessings."

Too bad we don’t have more leaders saying the same thing nowadays. Like here in Mexifornia our glorious leader Gruesome Newson could ask the Lord to end this drought. But nobody. He’s a Godless Piece-O-chit.
And butter on the vegies??
No stuffing.
We have much more to be thankful for.
Reality check...
President Brandon’s proclamation:
Hey it’s a Thursday where is everybody?
The first Thanksgiving was in VA. It was about 20 miles from Jamestown.
Heck, most of them can not count to ten, even if they use their fingers.
He is my DH’s gggggggg Grandfather, we remember him today.
tragic, we would be a totally another nation and people if they did!
Mine, the paternal side, came over at 1636 or abt then. They were supposed to help settle the settlement the nobility were trying to form in this country. Yes, they were trying to form a nobility in this country.
The maternal side came over in 1651.

I cut and pasted the text--font face and formatted as you presented it onto a sheet, distributed to those at our Thanksgiving Day meal, that we might consider the God Who gave us this country and all that is good that we have. The idea was to honor and not forget Him at all as we gathered for the repast.
Thank you for your labors to keep your audience awake and alert to our continuously overseeing Sovereign and Savior.
