Today, on November 20, His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, on his 75th birthday, gave an interview aired on the government TV channel.
Starting with a recollection of his formative years which made him a faithful Christian in opposition to the godless totalitarian Soviet power, His Holiness turned to the events of the present day, so markedly different from the recent past. Considering a few letters he received from U.S. residents who expressed their desire to move to Russia, the Patriarch said:
"I have no doubt – please, listen carefully – that Russia today is the leader of the free world. I can imagine the reaction to my words from whatever side, but such is the reality. We are free from the most powerful influences from abroad, we are travelling our own road, and may the Lord grant us success on our way, to be an example for others."
"We have no bones of contention to split the society, to bring about any deep controversy, and this is truly a mercy of God. While the existing diversity of opinion on various issues is normal in a free society, it contributes to the creative process of national development."
Touching on the anti-Christian and anti-religious attitudes so common in the modern world, His Holiness remarked:
"This hatred of God is hardly explainable in rational terms. In our totalitarian past, the state officials had to toe the prescribed anti-Christian line, but that stance was by and large formal. Religious values and heavenly pursuit are inherent in a normal human soul… Not so for the Christ-haters of today." Patriarch Kirill then remarked, “Satan is fighting God in human hearts,” quoting The Brothers Karamazov, a famous novel by Fyodor Dostoevsky.
I guess Russia has their own Biden
I suspect Russia is more free than the US.
I suspect Kirill is more pro-freedom than the current pope.
So maybe he’s right.
As someone who spent their military career as a Cold Warrior, I’m truly grateful to God that America stood firm and was at the front of the battle saving the world from godless Communism. I only pray that that he will save America from the same fate— a worse fate, perhaps, since as the Patriarch stated, the communists in our country don’t pursue it on merely formal ideological lines, but because they believe in it with all their hearts. When the Devil captures your mind it’s one thing, when you give him your heart, you’re all in.
There is substantial evidence from Western Leaders, political and religious, that Patriarch Kirill could cite, including actions and announcements by Pope Francis himself, that support Patriarch Kirill’s assessment of Western values, morals, and ethics.
As a fellow Cold Warrior (sandbox as well) I agree with you completely.
I feel like I’m living in the Soviet Union these days.
You feel like you are living in the Soviet Union today BECAUSE YOU ARE!!!
Many a Freeper has expressed a possible interest in moving to Russia. Imagine that, did you ever think you would see the day when Americans would want to move to Russia? I sure didn’t.
He’s right.
It certainly is not the United States.
Excellent point.
I would choose Poland, it has all the benefits of Russia without so many of the negatives.
Well, we sure ain’t.
Poland is essentially a socialist country, expending German money for the welfare state. Right-wing rhetoric on the Polish government shouldn’t fool you. And the Germans are about to cut funding.
The Soviet Union was much more socially conservative than the lunatics who rule the west today.
