Editor's note: This is the first in an occasional series of stories examining the breadth and depth of abuse alleged by women who were sent to Christian homes for troubled teens across the country. Many of the homes were in the South, but the girls were sent to them from just about every state. When Emily Adams was a teenager, she was whisked away from her home and placed in a school for wayward girls in an isolated location outside Petal. Adams stayed at Bethesda Home for Girls for about two years in the mid-1980s — two years of torment and torture, she says. Now in her 50s, Adams said she is working to change the narrative on what happened in those years and connect with her "sisters" who lived through the same nightmares.
"The main focus is to give my sisters healing," she said. Adams is not alone. There were dozens of similar homes across the country where parents were convinced that their children would receive a good Christian education in a loving environment. The homes' directors said they would work with the teens' issues — drinking, drugs, smoking, disobedience, sex — and "cure" them of their vices through the word of the Lord. Instead, the girls were beaten daily, deprived of food, locked in their dormitories and forced to endure a variety of humiliations, Adams said.

Where is evidence or past complaints? This sounds iffy
Hit piece.
You asked a teen floozy her opinion, and this is what you get. You took away her booze, pot, and cigarettes, shes gonna be angry.. even years later
This is the same kind of stuff/schools that Oprah’s girlfriend Dr. Phil has come under fire for recently. Dr. Phil sent kids to these kind of schools for years now we come to find out they were abusing kids.
If secular schools can be taking the hit then so can religious ones. Seems there needs to be more regulations on all kinds of them
Very iffy, if not a total lie. Hepzibah House and a host of others having been this kind of place for, in some cases, almost a hundred years.
The number of success stories out of these would swamp this one girls complaints, but they will probably not ask those women about their time in these houses.
Very Iffy! There is a movement to discredit any conservative youth organization or help. Like the Boy Scouts, or these homes.
These ideas started by Dr Goebels and were adopted by the Soviets - just spread lies or misinformation to cancel everybody they do not like.
“Obviously, these girls would be better prostituting themselves and/or being drug addicts. “
i believe it.
About 15 years ago a friend of mine was running for an office in state government and he noticed a number of address, apartments, with 10 to 15 registered voters.
He asked the party bosses (in Texas) what the hell was going on there and he was told something to the effect: “Of course they cheat, but given the racism of the past and the media, we have to be very careful about calling it out. But we win (usually, now), so we let it slide and consider it just part of the ‘political process’”
The problem is, of course, that the Democrats get better and better at cheating, until they’re able to manufacture votes in the millions. The question is whether Trump can stop that crap...if not, game over.
Interesting that the abuse only happens in ‘Christian’ homes.
It happens in secular ones too see my post 5
Let’s pile on Christianity, family and the South again!
Moronic lack of journalistic ethics.
so put them in a muslim home and see what they get from that experience.
“We are going to put you into a Muslim home to get the fundamentalist Christian out of you”
“OK but I am trans and gay”
“mmmm...uuuhhhhh...(explodes)
The Nazis, to discredit the church, had their media exaggerate and amplify, if not flat out lie about, financial and sexual scandals that involved church people and their leadership.
Color me skeptical.
