Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

2 Chronicles 6:4-11

4 Then he said: “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, who with his hands has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth to my father David. For he said, 5 ‘Since the day I brought my people out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city in any tribe of Israel to have a temple built so that my Name might be there, nor have I chosen anyone to be ruler over my people Israel. 6 But now I have chosen Jerusalem for my Name to be there, and I have chosen David to rule my people Israel.’

7 “My father David had it in his heart to build a temple for the Name of the Lord, the God of Israel. 8 But the Lord said to my father David, ‘You did well to have it in your heart to build a temple for my Name. 9 Nevertheless, you are not the one to build the temple, but your son, your own flesh and blood—he is the one who will build the temple for my Name.’

10 “The Lord has kept the promise he made. I have succeeded David my father and now I sit on the throne of Israel, just as the Lord promised, and I have built the temple for the Name of the Lord, the God of Israel. 11 There I have placed the ark, in which is the covenant of the Lord that he made with the people of Israel.”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Bless the LORD,
Oh My Soul,
And Let All That is Within Me Bless His Most Holy Name!
Abba, Father,
We Praise and Worship You,
You Alone Are Worthy of Worship and Praise,
For You Alone Are The One True God,
As the Nations Rage So Furiously Against You,
And Against Your People,
We Know That You Are Our Shepherd,
You lead Us,
Guide Us and Protect Us,
We Run To You and Are Safe!

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

Let all that has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.

God Bless America.

Psalm 47

To the leader. Of the Korahites. A Psalm.

1 Clap your hands, all you peoples;
shout to God with loud songs of joy.
2 For the Lord, the Most High, is awesome,
a great king over all the earth.
3 He subdued peoples under us,
and nations under our feet.
4 He chose our heritage for us,
the pride of Jacob whom he loves.
Selah

5 God has gone up with a shout,
the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.
6 Sing praises to God, sing praises;
sing praises to our King, sing praises.
7 For God is the king of all the earth;
sing praises with a psalm.*

8 God is king over the nations;
God sits on his holy throne.
9 The princes of the peoples gather
as the people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God;
he is highly exalted.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

When a fire ravaged the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, I was horrified. I watched in tears as the spire fall into the flames. Even though I am neither French nor Roman Catholic, I felt as though my heart was being torn out. I was even more appalled at what seemed like complacency and inaction on the part of the authorities, who were both. In light of current events, and the fact that this came on the heels of dozens of church burnings in Europe, I was convinced that the fire was caused by an enemy, not by a careless workman. And yet, none of the authorities were bold enough to suggest that. That inspired me to write a song, which was scribbled on a napkin and soon will be arranged for guitar and vocal. It applies to more than just the fire:

The Elephant (c MLK 2021)

He's Big and he takes up all the space
And there's not much to begin with, in this place.
So we sip our wine and fix our stare
And just pretend he isn't there
He smirks at our impending doom.
He's the Elephant in the Living Room.

He stars in this Theater of the Absurd.
Though he's silent, his eyes are shouting the word.
The Truth is Toxic, so we avert our eyes,
And when confronted, act SO Surprised.
Our doubts spring up, but we won't let them bloom,
Of the Elephant in the Living Room.

(BRIDGE)
There he is! He's in plain sight.
But to mention him would be impolite.
He represents the sum of our fear,
So close your eyes, and he'll disappear!

It's easy to say he doesn't exist,
That he's just a mirage, or an effect of the mist.
Or maybe's he's a big fat hologram,
It's safer to just not give a damn.
Turn off the light, let him fade into gloom,
There's no Elephant in MY Living Room!

Solomon's Prayer for the Dedication of the Temple was from his heart. The Temple itself was Magnificent, and soon became known throughout the World as the most beautiful building ever. The Second Temple didn't come close, and Herod's Restoration Project may have been huge, but never as beautiful. The Elephant in the Living Room was the fact that, even as people honored God with their lips (and with their architecture), their hearts were far from it. As beautiful as the Temple was, unless the Spirit of God dwelled in it, it was just a building. And buildings can be destroyed.

One would think, that in an era of Instant Communication, News-Gathering, ans Media, that we would be the most informed people in History. And yet, our living rooms contain whole herds of Elephants. Pandemics, Vaccines, Terrorism, Politics, Immigration, Religion, and Education are all issues, but nobody talks about the Elephant.

Maybe it's time to say something!
