Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Ecclesiastes 8
Who is like the wise?
Who knows the explanation of things?
A person’s wisdom brightens their face
and changes its hard appearance.
Obey the King
2 Obey the king’s command, I say, because you took an oath before God. 3 Do not be in a hurry to leave the king’s presence. Do not stand up for a bad cause, for he will do whatever he pleases. 4 Since a king’s word is supreme, who can say to him, “What are you doing?”
5 Whoever obeys his command will come to no harm,
and the wise heart will know the proper time and procedure.
6 For there is a proper time and procedure for every matter,
though a person may be weighed down by misery.
7 Since no one knows the future,
who can tell someone else what is to come?
8 As no one has power over the wind to contain it,
so[a] no one has power over the time of their death.
As no one is discharged in time of war,
so wickedness will not release those who practice it.
9 All this I saw, as I applied my mind to everything done under the sun. There is a time when a man lords it over others to his own[b] hurt. 10 Then too, I saw the wicked buried—those who used to come and go from the holy place and receive praise[c] in the city where they did this. This too is meaningless.
11 When the sentence for a crime is not quickly carried out, people’s hearts are filled with schemes to do wrong. 12 Although a wicked person who commits a hundred crimes may live a long time, I know that it will go better with those who fear God, who are reverent before him. 13 Yet because the wicked do not fear God, it will not go well with them, and their days will not lengthen like a shadow.
14 There is something else meaningless that occurs on earth: the righteous who get what the wicked deserve, and the wicked who get what the righteous deserve. This too, I say, is meaningless. 15 So I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun.
16 When I applied my mind to know wisdom and to observe the labor that is done on earth—people getting no sleep day or night— 17 then I saw all that God has done. No one can comprehend what goes on under the sun. Despite all their efforts to search it out, no one can discover its meaning. Even if the wise claim they know, they cannot really comprehend it.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our God,
How Excellent is Your Name over All The Earth!
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are The King of the Universe!
Ancient of Days,
You Are The One True God,
and We Praise and Worship You with Our Whole Heart,
Soul, Mind, and Spirit!
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
Let all that has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.
God Bless America.

There was an Episode on the TV Show "Seinfeld" where Jerry was considering trying a new barber. Even though his last haircut had been unsatisfactory, Jerry agonized over what his former barber of many years might consider disloyalty. The entire show was built upon that premise.
For some crazy reason, I am intensely loyal to entities who neither appreciate my loyalty, or even know I exist. When Harley-Davidson bought back its shares from AMF (The Bowling Ball Company) in 1981, I rejoiced! I had been loyal to the brand all through the dismal seventies. In the case of Harley, my loyalty was rewarded. My current ride is considered a Classic Collectable.
Another brand that had my loyalty was Gibson Guitars. At great expense, I purchased an experimental guitar back in 2009. The guitar was equipped with six micro-processors that tuned the guitar all by itself. Since I am hearing impaired, I thought this was very cool. However, the very first time I tried to recharge the battery, the thing DIED! (we are talking about a $5000.00 guitar!) I contacted Gibson and was told that the experiment was a mistake and they were no longer repairing that model. I had a local Luthier strip the guts out and turn it into a regular Les Paul Guitar. It is a beautiful instrument, but I have to tune it myself.
My next case of misplaced loyalty was to Apple. I held onto my 2009 Mac Mini for YEARS, until I finally replaced it this spring. There was nothing wrong with the unit itself, but Apple stopped "supporting" it. No software upgrades, no tune-ups, nothing! Apple stopped supporting my iTunes as well, so when I finally upgraded, I lost ALL of my Music.
Probably the worst disappointment of all was my unswerving loyalty to a certain politician for more than ten years. I defended this man when he wouldn't defend himself. I lost some clients because of a bumper sticker that bore his name. And yet, in recent years that person has spoken against my principles, my country, and people I care about. How could I have been so blind?
No matter how big and powerful we are, no matter how wise or learned we are, and no matter how faithful and loyal we are, we all make mistakes. Solomon, who was arguably the Wisest Man Who Ever Lived, still struggled with disappointment and disillusionment. He does not lapse into despair though. We are reaching a turning point in his musings...he is about to reach his conclusion in the next few Chapters. The whole of the Book of Ecclesiastes will pull together soon in a grand finale.
Why do you suppose that the Holy Spirit would allow the thoughts of a sad old man to be canonized as Holy Scripture? Could it be that God knew in advance, from the Foundation of the World, that you or I would have these kinds of moments too? That we would have times when we feel that all we have achieved in life is just vanity, gone with the wind, and there's nothing else? That we would struggle when loyalty, faithfulness, and integrity do not seem to be rewarding at all?
If changing a barber, buying a motorcycle or a guitar, upgrading a computer, or voting for a candidate can cause so much trauma, how much more-so is dealing with personal betrayal?
Those of us who look to Jesus as the Author and Finisher of our faith always have a Shelter from the Storms of Life. Unlike the world, He will NEVER let me down. He will never leave me or forsake me.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)
God Bless America.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

God has gifted you, Mary-Lou, as a Bible commentator. I'll be interested to see whether He is leading you to collecting these essays for publication as some sort of homespun commentary. Indeed, don't be surprised if a publisher contacts you.
In the meantime, it is my pleasure to "AMEN!" your excellent prayer.

Psalm 61
To the leader: with stringed instruments. Of David.
1 Hear my cry, O God;
listen to my prayer.
2 From the end of the earth I call to you,
when my heart is faint.
Lead me to the rock
that is higher than I;
3 for you are my refuge,
a strong tower against the enemy.
4 Let me abide in your tent for ever,
find refuge under the shelter of your wings.
Selah
5 For you, O God, have heard my vows;
you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.
6 Prolong the life of the king;
may his years endure to all generations!
7 May he be enthroned for ever before God;
appoint steadfast love and faithfulness to watch over him!
8 So I will always sing praises to your name,
as I pay my vows day after day.
