Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Ecclesiastes 5
Fulfill Your Vow to God
5 [a]Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong.
2 Do not be quick with your mouth,
do not be hasty in your heart
to utter anything before God.
God is in heaven
and you are on earth,
so let your words be few.
3 A dream comes when there are many cares,
and many words mark the speech of a fool.
4 When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfill it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow. 5 It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfill it. 6 Do not let your mouth lead you into sin. And do not protest to the temple messenger, “My vow was a mistake.” Why should God be angry at what you say and destroy the work of your hands? 7 Much dreaming and many words are meaningless. Therefore fear God.
Riches Are Meaningless
8 If you see the poor oppressed in a district, and justice and rights denied, do not be surprised at such things; for one official is eyed by a higher one, and over them both are others higher still. 9 The increase from the land is taken by all; the king himself profits from the fields.
10 Whoever loves money never has enough;
whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income.
This too is meaningless.
11 As goods increase,
so do those who consume them.
And what benefit are they to the owners
except to feast their eyes on them?
12 The sleep of a laborer is sweet,
whether they eat little or much,
but as for the rich, their abundance
permits them no sleep.
13 I have seen a grievous evil under the sun:
wealth hoarded to the harm of its owners,
14 or wealth lost through some misfortune,
so that when they have children
there is nothing left for them to inherit.
15 Everyone comes naked from their mother’s womb,
and as everyone comes, so they depart.
They take nothing from their toil
that they can carry in their hands.
16 This too is a grievous evil:
As everyone comes, so they depart,
and what do they gain,
since they toil for the wind?
17 All their days they eat in darkness,
with great frustration, affliction and anger.
18 This is what I have observed to be good: that it is appropriate for a person to eat, to drink and to find satisfaction in their toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given them—for this is their lot. 19 Moreover, when God gives someone wealth and possessions, and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil—this is a gift of God. 20 They seldom reflect on the days of their life, because God keeps them occupied with gladness of heart.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven
Hallowed be Your Most Holy Name!
How We Long For Your Kingdom,
How We Wait For Your Will to be Done,
Here on earth, as it already is, in Heaven!
You Are Our Peace,
Our Wholeness,
Our Shalom,
Our Security,
Our Prosperity,
and Our Future.
We are nothing without You.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
Let all that has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.
God Bless America.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

I wish I could say that I have fond memories of my first piano teacher, but alas, that is not the case. She used to hit my fingers with a ruler and yell at me when I looked at my hands. On top of that, she would not allow me to play the little pieces I had written, and ridiculed my efforts at songwriting. Of course, I never practiced, so I made mistakes, which were punished. I hated lessons and quit after about a year. (Other students did fine...so maybe it was me?) At the time, I made a Vow that I would NEVER be a teacher, because I didn't want to make my students cry.
Years went by, and I was largely self-taught on piano, though I did study voice as a young adult. Even though I couldn't read music at that time, I was able to make a living as a performing artist, playing guitar, piano, keyboard, and singing.
A friend in Florida kept trying to get me to teach, and I kept refusing, citing my "Vow". Finally, I made a NEW Vow, that I would teach, but I would not make my students CRY. And so, I began to teach, and ended up working full-time, with over twenty students a week, while running the recording studio at the same time. Some of my students have gone on to successful careers in Pop Music.
After moving to New England, I tried to build up my business again, but it has been difficult. And, just a few months ago, one of my students burst into uncontrollable sobbing when she couldn't get the fingering right. That made ME cry, because of my Vow! And so, the Mom walked in on two people, 60 years apart in age, weeping at the piano. It was AWFUL!.
Solomon made a Vow to God when he first asked for Wisdom, many years before he wrote Ecclesiastes. He vowed to be faithful and serve no other gods. God made it clear to Solomon that he was not to collect horses or wives, because these would both be a snare to him. He did both, and both were indeed a snare. It didn't take long for him to stray into idolatry, in spite of his wisdom.
Today's reading warns us about being rash when making promises we can't keep. This is especially damaging when these promises are to God. When we fail, our failures are all the more devastating because of our bravado.
The Apostle Peter learned this the hard way, and, from what we can see from Ecclesiastes, so did Solomon.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)
God Bless America.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.
Hallelujah and Amen

Did we have the same piano teacher?
Mine couldn’t keep a tune as she droned out the rhythm while I nervously searched to find the notes on the keyboard. Then came the LONG pencil. Whap!

My teacher was a Nun in a full black habit who was actually an accomplished musician and played oboe in a local symphony orchestra.
(I will have to share a story about THAT some day!)
I have no idea why anyone who doesn’t like kids would want to teach! LOL!
But, that kind of discipline is very Old-School and was common in those days. (sigh)
I want my students to LOVE music. That won’t happen if they get hit for making mistakes.
I used to jazz things up a lot too, by synchopating the note values. When I did that with Bach’s Minuet in G (I played it in 4/4 instead of 3/4 to sound like the Pop Song “Lover’s Concerto”), boy oh boy did i get whacked!

Psalm 16
A Miktam of David.
1 Protect me, O God, for in you I take refuge.
2 I say to the Lord, ‘You are my Lord;
I have no good apart from you.’*
3 As for the holy ones in the land, they are the noble,
in whom is all my delight.
4 Those who choose another god multiply their sorrows;*
their drink-offerings of blood I will not pour out
or take their names upon my lips.
5 The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup;
you hold my lot.
6 The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
I have a goodly heritage.
7 I bless the Lord who gives me counsel;
in the night also my heart instructs me.
8 I keep the Lord always before me;
because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my soul rejoices;
my body also rests secure.
10 For you do not give me up to Sheol,
or let your faithful one see the Pit.
11 You show me the path of life.
In your presence there is fullness of joy;
in your right hand are pleasures for evermore.

Good life lesson, left that other site
In fourth grade, I took free lessons from our music teacher on the piano. She often sent me back in the practice book because I made up my own fingering. Next year, I took up the flute. In high school I completed in music festivals (and did well) and sometimes that same teacher accompanied me.
Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.

Actually, I knew the “Toys” versionlong before i saw the Bach Version.
Johann was unavailable to comment upon the use of his song.
And recently, it has been suggested that the original was by someone other than Johanne, but that he trnscribed it for Anna Magdelena’s Notebook.
Evidently she found the time to practice even though she and Johann had 18 surviving children.

I’ve never understood how physically assaulting a pupil while they’re in the midst of trying to learn a lesson is somehow motivating. If I had been attacked like that by a teacher, I’d have knocked their teeth down their throat and made them eat the ruler.

I hear you, but, alas, that is how theydid things back in the day. The Boston Public Schools still used the rattan back when I was in Elementary School. We can’t imagine such things now.
