Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Ecclesiastes 4

Oppression, Toil, Friendlessness

4 Again I looked and saw all the oppression that was taking place under the sun:

I saw the tears of the oppressed—
    and they have no comforter;
power was on the side of their oppressors—
    and they have no comforter.

2  And I declared that the dead,
    who had already died,
are happier than the living,
    who are still alive.

3  But better than both
    is the one who has never been born,
who has not seen the evil
    that is done under the sun.
4 And I saw that all toil and all achievement spring from one person’s envy of another. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

5  Fools fold their hands
    and ruin themselves.

6  Better one handful with tranquillity
    than two handfuls with toil
    and chasing after the wind.
7 Again I saw something meaningless under the sun:

8  There was a man all alone;
    he had neither son nor brother.
There was no end to his toil,
    yet his eyes were not content with his wealth.
“For whom am I toiling,” he asked,
    “and why am I depriving myself of enjoyment?”
This too is meaningless—
    a miserable business!

9  Two are better than one,
    because they have a good return for their labor:

10  If either of them falls down,
    one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls
    and has no one to help them up.

11  Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
    But how can one keep warm alone?

12  Though one may be overpowered,
    two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Advancement Is Meaningless

13 Better a poor but wise youth than an old but foolish king who no longer knows how to heed a warning. 14 The youth may have come from prison to the kingship, or he may have been born in poverty within his kingdom. 15 I saw that all who lived and walked under the sun followed the youth, the king’s successor. 16 There was no end to all the people who were before them. But those who came later were not pleased with the successor. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

Our God and heavenly Father,
How Holy is Your Name!
Thank You For Your Deliverance,
From The Slavery of Sin and Death
From The Dark Night of Unbelief,
And From the Clutches of the Enemy of our Soul.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

Let all that has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Yesterday, around 1:00 in the afternoon, I got a frantic call from my little sister.

"ML! I don't know what to do! I can't get on Facebook! It was acting all wonky, so I deleted the app, tried to reinstall it, and it won't reconize my password, my email address, or my telephone number! What am I going to do????"

I have not been on FB since I quit in a huff shortly after its launch in 2004 (long story for another day), but, knowing how aggravated I get when FR is offline, I offered my suggestions.

1. Try logging on to some other sites. Make sure the problem isn't in your own phone.
2. Try uninstalling and re-installing the app (she already tried that).
3. Try opening a new account, but using your old info. They will redirect you to your existing account. (Didn't Work)

None of my suggestions helped.
Then I saw on FR that this was a problem all over the world! It was FB's fault, not my Sister's. From what I've read, FB was out of commission all over the world for 6 hours. The employees couldn't even get into the FB Building to work on the problem, because their security badges wouldn't work. I have hated that company for 16 years, but I love my family and friends, so I hovered in that dark chasm between Compassion and Schadenfreude. Some folks, like my sister, use the app for networking and business, so the outage caused possible economic loss. Others use it to stay in touch with Family, Friends, old Army Buddies, and Business Associates. So they were hurt by this too. But, the cantankerous "old man" in me rubbed his hands together in glee at the failure of the huge monster that had been the bane of my existence for so long. (I have been denied opportunities for social events, ministry, employment, etc, because I REFUSED to go on FB).

Since coming to Faith in October 1981, I have firmly believed that we are in "The Last Days." I worked in a Christian Bookstore back in 1982-1983, and the shelves were lined with conflicting books: Dispensationalism, Preterism, Pre, Mid, and Post Trib Rapturism, Pre-Millenniel, Post-Millennial, A-Millennial, Replacement Theology, Anti-Replacement Theology, British Israelism, and probably more that I can't think of right now. Even though all of these authors backed up their theories with Scripture, they were all seeing just part of the picture. And, woe unto those who set actual DATES for the Lord's Return! One sure-fire way to end up with egg on your face is to have a target date for the Lord's return come and go with nothing happening! Unfortunately, the egg splatters on the faces of sincere Christians who look forward to Jesus's Glorious Appearance as well. It casts aspersions upon their testimony.

One of the challenges that skeptics pose is their questioning how ANYONE could control communications around the entire WORLD. With all the varying Cultures, Political Systems, Languages, and Religions, how could that be even possible.

Well, Yesterday's FB Debacle showed us that it is quite possible indeed.

Live each Day as if Jesus could return Tonight...or a Millennia from now. Stay in touch with Family and Friends without being dependent upon Big Media. As Solomon said, even in the midst of his old age-related depression, "Two are better than one.". If one falls, the other will pick him up. The two of you have a Third Cord in your "Braid". That is, of course, Almight God. A three-cord rope is not easily broken.

I use FB, but stay clear of politics (which had landed many a friend in FB jail — digital time out).

Yet, I used it by sharing Scripture, cats, nature, encouragement. It’s a ministry. And to my delight, I connected to some of my classmates with terrible past and find they had come to Jesus. Such a delight!

But I can do without it. And you share a view like other friends.
