Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Ecclesiastes 3
A Time for Everything
3 There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
9 What do workers gain from their toil? 10 I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet[a] no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. 12 I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. 13 That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God. 14 I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him.
15 Whatever is has already been,
and what will be has been before;
and God will call the past to account.[b]
16 And I saw something else under the sun:
In the place of judgment—wickedness was there,
in the place of justice—wickedness was there.
17 I said to myself,
“God will bring into judgment
both the righteous and the wicked,
for there will be a time for every activity,
a time to judge every deed.”
18 I also said to myself, “As for humans, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals. 19 Surely the fate of human beings is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath[c]; humans have no advantage over animals. Everything is meaningless. 20 All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return. 21 Who knows if the human spirit rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?”
22 So I saw that there is nothing better for a person than to enjoy their work, because that is their lot. For who can bring them to see what will happen after them?

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Lately many commercials are using Classic Rock as their background music. Mostly these tunes show up on Drug Company commercials that are trying to push prescription drugs for elderly and middle-aged problems. That is because of the Boomer Demographic. Perhaps the most obvious example is the use of a Fleetwood-Mac song to sell a medication for bladder control problems. EEK!
Back in the 60's, when I was learning to play guitar, there was a song called "Turn,Turn, Turn". It was a big hit at the time and very easy to play, so it became part of my meager repertoire. At the time, there was a rumor that the lyrics were from the Bible. No matter, it was a cool song and all the hippies were singing along as I sat on Boston Common and played my guitar. Little did I realize that Pete Seeger, the author of the song, had lifted the words right out of Ecclesiastes. Not only did he steal the lyrics, he altered the message by changing the last line to suit his anti-war agenda. For years, I thought that "A time for peace, I swear it's not too late" were from the Bible! They AREN'T. In fact, the words "Turn, Turn, Turn" aren't either! Nevertheless, when I read Ecclesiastes 3, that song goes through my head. That just shows the incredible power of music, and why advertisers use music to sell their product. (I'll bet you can all remember the theme song to "Gilligan's Island!)
Solomon was an accomplished songwriter, as evidenced by other passages in the Bible (Especially "Song of Solomon"), but this Passage in Ecclesiastes was more likely the musings of his latter years, as he struggled with the meaning of life. Although this beautiful Passage expresses a certain amount of fatalism, it also points to acceptance of God's Sovereignty. How much did Solomon try to micro-manage everything, and yet could not change the fact that he would eventually grow old and die? And even with his faith in God, he struggled with unanswered questions, which we still ask today.
St. Paul, in First Corinthians, said that at present, we see things as if in a darkened mirror, but one day we will see God Face-to-Face. It is a Promise that we can cling to!
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

Psalm 71
1 In you, O Lord, I take refuge;
let me never be put to shame.
2 In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me;
incline your ear to me and save me.
3 Be to me a rock of refuge,
a strong fortress,* to save me,
for you are my rock and my fortress.
4 Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked,
from the grasp of the unjust and cruel.
5 For you, O Lord, are my hope,
my trust, O Lord, from my youth.
6 Upon you I have leaned from my birth;
it was you who took me from my mother’s womb.
My praise is continually of you.
7 I have been like a portent to many,
but you are my strong refuge.
8 My mouth is filled with your praise,
and with your glory all day long.
9 Do not cast me off in the time of old age;
do not forsake me when my strength is spent.
10 For my enemies speak concerning me,
and those who watch for my life consult together.
11 They say, ‘Pursue and seize that person
whom God has forsaken,
for there is no one to deliver.’
12 O God, do not be far from me;
O my God, make haste to help me!
13 Let my accusers be put to shame and consumed;
let those who seek to hurt me
be covered with scorn and disgrace.
14 But I will hope continually,
and will praise you yet more and more.
15 My mouth will tell of your righteous acts,
of your deeds of salvation all day long,
though their number is past my knowledge.
16 I will come praising the mighty deeds of the Lord God,
I will praise your righteousness, yours alone.
17 O God, from my youth you have taught me,
and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds.
18 So even to old age and grey hairs,
O God, do not forsake me,
until I proclaim your might
to all the generations to come.*
Your power 19and your righteousness, O God,
reach the high heavens.
You who have done great things,
O God, who is like you?
20 You who have made me see many troubles and calamities
will revive me again;
from the depths of the earth
you will bring me up again.
21 You will increase my honour,
and comfort me once again.
22 I will also praise you with the harp
for your faithfulness, O my God;
I will sing praises to you with the lyre,
O Holy One of Israel.
23 My lips will shout for joy
when I sing praises to you;
my soul also, which you have rescued.
24 All day long my tongue will talk of your righteous help,
for those who tried to do me harm
have been put to shame, and disgraced.

Our generation had great music!
Oh yes, indeed. What is interesting is that even youthful performers at "Open mike Nites" do the music from our Generation rather than their own. Just last night I heard songs by:
Fleetwood Mac
The Grateful Dead
Bob Dylan
The Rolling Stones
Bob Segar
John Prine
Bonnie Rhait
The Doors
and, of course,
The Beatles.
The were a few 80's songs by Melissa Ethridge and the like, but the majority were what we call "Classic Rock".

Could be that the Youth hear something in our music that they don’t hear in the electronic, soul-less, melody-free, beat box, racist, sexist, hate-filled nonsense that passes for “Music” these days.
Eek...I’m starting to sound like my Dad! LOL!
