Some places do that so people won't 'feel bad' but it is an abuse and should not occur. Only Catholics in a state of grace should present themselves for Holy Communion.
I always appreciated receiving the priest’s blessing. Even though a Baptist, it’s hard to see it as anything other than a good thing all around.
You are correct that a priest’s blessing is a good thing, just hang around until the end of Mass and he gives the same blessing to everyone concurrently, “May Almighty God bless you...”.
An unconsecrated host is just a cracker. You could indeed make a sandwich if you wanted. But if you are doing that just to get a jab in at Catholics, there will be a spiritual impact on you completely aside from the physical nature of the host. So please be kind.
Good night and God bless.
I’m not going to have another flamer get a thread pulled.
Ok, you choose not to eat the sandwich - because it’s Friday and you have your dignity.
Father O’Toole is at the track and loses track of time. He’s having so much fun! But he suddenly remembers - he has to “celebrate” the 5:00 pm Mass!!
He drives his Caddy to the church, the congregants have already arrived. He knows the want no delays. BINGO starts at 6:00.
He rushes in, grabs his garb and the “essentials” for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
Right at the climax of the Mass, he realizes that he’s holding aloft a BOLOGNA SANDWICH! And it’s the THIRD LIFT!
Here’s the stupid question: What becomes of the meat?
Nothing.
Don’t feed the troll. He’s trying to get the thread pulled.
Exactly !!
I guess you’re right.
Have it your way.
re. Getting your threads “pulled”
1. I know you are aware already of your option to mark your precious communications with “Catholic Only” or some equivalent, thus avoiding criticism and having to defend yourself . Then you can own it without all the worry and aggravation that “owning it” brings along,
or
2. Your sleeve will fall off.
You are not correct according to what I read. For me to say you are a christian and live a Christian life would be error. You do not know me either. I accepted Christ, But you do NOT know what kind of life I am living, So if I WENT up and got communion and was living like the Devil, Damnation would be upon me, Not the Priest or minister.
BECAUSE... Who knows the thoughts of a man but the spirit of the man?
[10] But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. [11] For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
She could have accepted Christ in the middle of all this chaos, You and I probably “THINK NOT” BUT thats why scripture says....
SEE I am a Follower of Christ. IF I right now am living LIke the Devil and went up and had communion that day, Damnation would be upon ME. The Priest does not know the state of my heart. Thats why it is all MY responsiblity to know wheather or not I can go up and have Communion.
“accepted Christ”
“Follower of Christ”
__________
You appear to misapprehend the applicable criteria.
Among other requirements, one must be a member of the One True Faith. If one is not a born Catholic, one must convert. Publicly.
One does not become so merely by “accepting” Christ, or by becoming a “Follower” of Christ.
Think about it.
God is not mocked, KR.
Right!
Was I not clear?
I’m mocking something and someone ELSE!
The priest who gave her communion has basically apologized and said he messed up. He evidently only had a few seconds to figure out the situation and made the wrong call in the heat of the moment.
In an interview Friday with Catholic News Agency, Fr. Dan Brandt said just moments prior to Communion he was asked by Cardinal Blase Cupich, the main celebrant, to take his place distributing the Eucharist and became flustered when he saw the mayor step forward as the first in his line.
"You know something, I am to blame for that and I am mortified," Fr. Brandt said.
"I actually gave her Communion, but she was the very first one up there and I wasn't supposed to give out Communion, and at the last second Cardinal Cupich said, 'I'm going to sit out Communion, you take my spot.'
Cupich is evil to the bone.
Christ is present in the bread and wine, He said so. I believe Christ whether anyone has the mechanism of that taking place accurately worked out or not. Believing that I am eating His body and drinking His blood is an act of faith, not proof that I believe there is a scientifically clear explanation of how that change takes place or at what point that change takes place.
Christ and the Apostles made it very clear that we're to live by faith, not by having our personal understanding satisfied. In fact, I'd say that a good part of the weight of our cross in this modern world is the burden of believing things we cannot prove. The whole world pretends they believe that only what we can see, touch, measure, and prove scientifically, is real. Believing what Christ said is a real burden in that sort of world, especially when so many people either mock what Christ said or go to great lengths to explain why what Christ said isn't what you think He said
Jesus in John 6 says words that are clear
1. God will feed the multitudes
2. I am God - I can walk on water
3. Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life,[o] which the Son of Man will give you
4. This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent
5. my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.
6. I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger,
7. I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.
8. unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. 54 Whoever eats[s] my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. 55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.

He is crystal clear - and He emphasizes that this is not an allegory, but repeats thrice that this is what you are to do - eat of His Body and drink of His blood
