COP26: Pope Francis Will Not Celebrate Mass During Visit to Glasgow

Pope Francis will not celebrate a public Mass in Glasgow this November.

It was reported at the weekend that the 84-year-old wanted to conduct an open-air event for the people of Scotland during his visit to the COP26 climate conference.

However, the Catholic Church in Scotland said his tight schedule would make such an event impossible.

COP26 will be one of the Pontiff's first major appearances since undergoing colon surgery in July.

The conference was originally due to take place in November last year but was postponed due to the Covid pandemic.

It will now be held at the Scottish Events Campus from November 1-12.

In July, Pope Francis confirmed he would visit the country during the crucial summit.

His commitment to the event came after he said it was time to "change course" on the environment. He has also signed the Vatican up to reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.

Why take to time to worship God when one’s sole mission is to worship Pachamama at COP26?

When was the last time he celebrated mass? Maybe this is his problem:

“Note for the record that the canon does not say that every priest must celebrate Mass once per day; as we saw in “Do Priests Have to Say Mass Every Day?” the law is carefully worded in part to acknowledge the possibility that a priest might find himself in a state of grave sin—and until he is able to get to confession, it is obviously preferable from a theological standpoint for him to refrain from celebrating Mass in this spiritual state if he can.”

He’s probably afraid that St. Patrick would appear, and drive him out of Ireland if he did.

Bergoglio is a heretic, why would he want to celebrate mass?

If he’s not going to hold a Mass then what possible good is he at a secular political event.

Not correct. The Council of Trent - “If anyone says that a minister in the state of mortal sin, though he observes all the essentials that belong to the performing and conferring of the sacrament, does not perform or confer the sacrament, anathema sit [“let him be condemned”].

Nothing new:

Pope Francis opens final Holy Week services, skips Last Supper Rite (2021)

If he can't wash muslims' feet on Holy Thursday because of Covid, he won't offer Mass.
