Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 113

Psalm 113

1  Praise the Lord.[a]

Praise the Lord, you his servants;
    praise the name of the Lord.

2  Let the name of the Lord be praised,
    both now and forevermore.

3  From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets,
    the name of the Lord is to be praised.

4  The Lord is exalted over all the nations,
    his glory above the heavens.

5  Who is like the Lord our God,
    the One who sits enthroned on high,

6  who stoops down to look
    on the heavens and the earth?

7  He raises the poor from the dust
    and lifts the needy from the ash heap;

8  he seats them with princes,
    with the princes of his people.

9  He settles the childless woman in her home
    as a happy mother of children.

Praise the Lord.

Amen !!! <><

Psalm 43

1 Vindicate me, O God, and defend my cause
against an ungodly people;
from those who are deceitful and unjust
deliver me!

2 For you are the God in whom I take refuge;
why have you cast me off?
Why must I walk about mournfully
because of the oppression of the enemy?

3 O send out your light and your truth;
let them lead me;
let them bring me to your holy hill
and to your dwelling.
4 Then I will go to the altar of God,
to God my exceeding joy;
and I will praise you with the harp,
O God, my God.

5 Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my help and my God.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Ever since the Wonderful Esplanade Concert on July 4th, 1976, Boston has had one of the best Independence Day Celebrations, up there with Sydney Australia, New York, and Washington DC.

In 1976, the Bicentennial Concert featured Conductor Arthur Fiedler, The Boston Pops Orchestra, The New England Conservatory Chorus, All the Church Bells in Back Bay, Huge Fireworks, and the Massachusetts National Guard with their Howitzer Guns. Mom stayed home because she didn't like crowds, but Dad took me and all my 5 siblings to the celebration. (Of course, we could have been just as loud in our Living Room, as our living room speakers were the size of washing machines...but I digress).

Anyway, the seven of us found a mosquito-infested spot near the Charles River to celebrate America's 200th Birthday with about 500,000 other Classical Music Fans. We all knew the music by heart, but it was wonderful to hear "Stars and Stripes Forever" and Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" complete with Fireworks, Church Bells, and Cannon! I suppose Church Bells and Cannon are no longer "politically correct", and the last time I went to the Esplanade Concert Conductor (1998) Keith Lockhart truncated "1812" to the last 3 minutes, which is the finale. I was profoundly disappointed at Keith doing that, and loudly announced to my Biker Buddies that Keith RICHARD would have had more respect for the Score.

I wonder what they will be doing this year, with torrential rains predicted and the state still recovering from Covid Madness.

You may wonder what this reminiscence has to do with the Bible. After all, The "1812 Overture" is not Sacred Scripture, nor is it even about The Fourth of July. It is a commemoration of the Russian rout of Napoleon in (you guessed it!) 1812. The piece is a "Tone Poem" that tells the story of the battle, taking Russian Orthodox Hymns, La Marseillaise, Russian Folk Tunes, and Czarist Patriotic Songs in a setting that takes a mere twenty-two minutes. Through music, we here the peace of the land being invaded, the people awakening to the alarm, prayers for victory, invaders coming in, and ordinary people fighting back. We here the sounds of the battle, the confusion of the enemy, the back-and-forth of the warfare, and the booming of cannon. Then we hear the Church Bells pealing out the victory and the People jubilantly praising God and blessing the Czar. All in Twenty-Two Minutes. What parts would YOU cut out?

Perhaps Keith thought that the People of Boston were too stupid to sit through twenty-two minutes of Classical Music, and that they just wanted to get to the "part with the guns". Maybe he thought it was out-of-date, or inappropriate for July 4th. Maybe he hated the piece and just wanted to perform the barest minimum and get it over with. Nevertheless, the people of Boston had expected "1812" in its ENTIRETY, and had enjoyed the WHOLE THING for over twenty years. And so, in that Hatch Shell, flanked on each side by statues of Arthur Fiedler and General George Patton, Keith decided to topple an icon. George and Arthur are probably next on the agenda. I HATE "Cancel Culture!"

The left would like nothing better than to "adjust" the Bible to suit its own agenda. They would like the People to forget the verses that they have treasured and lived by for 2000 years. They would love for us to take the entire story and just truncate it to a happy ending where everybody is somebody and no one's anybody. (That's for all you Gilbert & Sullivan fans). They would like to erase the Heroes, The Villians, The Victories, and the Blunders from our own History. They want to leave intact only that which reinforces their Narrative. The End Justifies the Means.

Keith, if you're reading this, give us the whole "1812" next time, OK? Both Arthur and George will smile, I guarantee.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

God Bless America!

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.

Despite what the woke crowd does and censors:

Isaiah 40:8 KJV:
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
