When it comes to the debate over pro-abortion Catholic politicians receiving communion, one Catholic bishop says if they can’t even vote against a bill to stop infanticide, there’s nothing to talk about.
The comments from Auxiliary Bishop of Los Angeles Robert Barron come at a time when the nation’s bishops have just voted on a plan to create a new document related to communion in public life that could be used to rebuke Joe Biden and other pro-abortion Catholic politicians who flout the Church’s pro-life teachings.
The document could be written in a way to encourage pro-abortion Catholic politicians to dialog with local church leaders about the Catholic pro-life position. But Bishop Barron says if the politicians can’t even support a bill against infanticide, that would be fruitless.
In a commentary published Monday in The New York Post, Bishop Barron asks, “What precisely is there to dialogue about?”:
Banning third-trimester abortions?
Restricting partial-birth abortions (procedure by which a pair of scissors is inserted into the brain of a baby already in the birth canal)?
Born-alive legislation?
“We are told that we must pursue dialogue with those who disagree with the divine and natural law on the issue of abortion,” Barron writes.

Wow. I do like a lot of what Bishop Barron does, but not everything. I’ve always felt that he likes to phrase things in ways that can be easily agreed to without actually having to change one’s opinions, or live up to a standard. I did not expect this from him. Gotta give credit where credit is due. I hope some of his brother bishops listen to this.
