“contraception”
—The pill as it’s now formulated is an abortifacent.

“treatments for infertility”
“assisted human reproduction”
—Oblique references to IVF, which involves abortion.

Congress needs to mind its own business.
........................................
True, but the Church itself is responsible because it does not insist on its own autonomy regarding the separation of Church and State!

The church isn’t bound by any notion of separation of church and state. No church is. The first amendment forbids the gov’t from either establishing a religion or interfering with the practice thereof. So it’s congress that needs to follow the constitution, not the churches or religious.

I am aware of that. You have misread my comments because I did not assert that the church was bound by the first amendment, but rather that it invites government interference by its willingness to be unnecessarily engaging with it in matters that are none of its business. Historically that propensity has been problematic to say the least.

” willingness to be unnecessarily engaging with it in matters that are none of its business.”

The church’s own rules and beliefs are none of their own business? If a man walks into a Catholic church and proclaims that he is an atheist and demands Holy Communion, the church should oblige him?

Obviously you did poorly in reading comprehension, so let me clarify this for you. The words “it” and “its” in the sentence fragment you’ve referred to below BOTH refer to THE GOVERNMENT not to the church!

“willingness to be unnecessarily engaging with it in matters that are none of its business.”

Perhaps you should take a course in elementary semantics so you can avoid making a fool of yourself!
