It is interesting. Maybe it was not very appealing-looking, especially versus the Forbidden Fruit.

It is interesting that Adam didn’t eat from the tree of life when he had the chance.

Of course he did. He was allowed to eat from every tree in the Garden except the tree of knowledge.

Once he ate from the tree of Knowledge, then they were forced out of the Garden to prevent them from continuing to eat from the tree of Life.

However, they still had the effects from their previous meals from the tree of Life--multiple generations lived for hundreds of years.

The Tree of Life was not the Tree of Spiritual Life--that was their communion with God. The Tree of Life was physical life.

...the Requirement for Exaltation.

The Doctrine and Covenants
Section 132:63

But if one or either of the ten virgins, after she is espoused, shall be with another man, she has committed adultery, and shall be destroyed; for they are given unto him to multiply and replenish the earth, according to my commandment, and to fulfil the promise which was given by my Father before the foundation of the world, and for their exaltation in the eternal worlds, that they may bear the souls of men; for herein is the work of my Father continued, that he may be glorified.

The Doctrine and Covenants

Section 132:61-62

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Nauvoo, Illinois, recorded 12 July 1843, relating to the new and everlasting covenant, including the eternity of the marriage covenant, and also the plurality of wives (see History of the Church, 5:501 - 7). Although the revelation was recorded in 1843, it is evident from the historical records that the doctrines and principles involved in this revelation had been known by the Prophet since 1831.

61 And again, as pertaining to the law of the priesthood: "if any man espouse a virgin, and desire to espouse aanother, and the first give her consent, and if he espouse the second, and they are virgins, and have vowed to no other man, then is he justified; he cannot commit adultery for they are given unto him; for he cannot commit adultery with that that belongeth unto him and to no one else.

62 And if he have aten virgins given unto him by this law, he cannot commit adultery, for they belong to him, and they are given unto him; therefore is he justified.

Not according to Scripture:

Genesis 3:22

Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil.
Now, lest he reach out his hand and take also of the tree of life and eat, and live forever—

That phrasing can be interpreted a couple of different ways.

1. Like you have pointed out, it could be that he has not yet eaten of it.

2. The word "continue" would be understood. "lest he reach out his hand and continue to take also" I lean toward the second meaning since Revelation 22:2 indicates the Tree of Life. What would be the purpose of the Tree of Life in a setting where we are all immortal, if we have no need of it?

However, this is a minor point, and our salvation does not depend on it. Other viewpoints should not get us upset.

It is eternal life. One feature of living forever is that you can do it only once. It cannot be temporary and eternal at the same time. If you ever die then you never had eternal life. If you can die then you don't have eternal life.

It is eternal life.

Does Scripture actually say that eating from that Tree once grants eternal life? Or can it be that eating from that Tree extends/renews life?

It's merely described as the Tree of Life. It's properties are actually not described.

It's merely described as the Tree of Life. It's properties are actually not described.

Living forever is one of its properties. All of the things are types. God designed them to help us understand spiritual things that are not seen. Death and resurrection were part of God’s plan from the beginning so Adam was restricted from the tree of life for a while. I don’t know if Adam ever ate from the tree of life, it doesn’t say. He didn’t live forever.
Heb 10:1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
The tree of life is like a shadow, the image of Christ. It is one of many pictures of Christ scattered through scripture, each giving us a different perspective of Christ. If you put them all together you will have a pretty good 3D picture of him.

Correct. He did, however, live a VERY long time.

The tree of life is like a shadow, the image of Christ. It is one of many pictures of Christ scattered through scripture, each giving us a different perspective of Christ. If you put them all together you will have a pretty good 3D picture of him.

Understood. My understanding of Christ, though, is that I must work constantly to be like Him. I cannot just say one day that I repent, accept Him as my Savior, then continue on with the rest of my life like nothing happened. It's not a one-shot deal.

Like that image, the Tree of Life is not a one-shot deal.

Like I mentioned to Elsie earlier, this is not a salvation issue so our opinions on this are not as important as other issues. One can choose to believe what one wants and it will not affect salvation. It should not affect our attitudes towards others.

Eternal life is a one shot deal. If you have it, you live forever. If you don’t live forever, you don’t have it.

My understanding of Christ, though is that I must work constantly to be like him

Christ, the author and finisher of our faith will also work constantly toward the same goal. We have an obstacle to overcome, the natural man. We are created in Adam and we are created in Christ. The natural man will work against that goal.
Gal 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
This is not a salvation issue so our opinions on this are not as important as other issues.

Caution here. Everything in scripture is there because the author thought it was important. Try not to rank issues by importance.
