The Archdiocese of Milwaukee is refusing to turn over its records to a state investigation into clergy sex abuse.
On Thursday, the Associated Press reported that the archdiocese refused to turn over its sealed records to the state Department of Justice as part of its investigation into clerical sex abuse. The archdiocese claimed the records were sealed as part of a 2012 bankruptcy case.
In April, Wisconsin attorney general Josh Kaul had announced the launch of an investigation into sexual abuse in the state’s Catholic dioceses and at least three religious orders. He asked representatives of the dioceses to an April 26 online meeting.
Four of the state’s five dioceses, as well as the Jesuits and the Norbertines, have already disclosed the names of priests credibly accused of sex abuse. The Diocese of Superior is gathering its own list with the intent to publish it by the end of the year. In total, 177 priests have been identified as having abused minors.
In response to Kaul’s order, the Milwaukee archdiocese said in April that the Church has already taken the necessary steps to respond to clerical sex abuse – including publishing the names of the credibly accused priests.
On Wednesday, June 1, the attorney for the archdiocese Frank LoCoco sent a letter to Kaul informing him that the archdiocese believed the investigation was unlawful. The full letter was reported by Wisconsin Public Radio.
LoCoco proposed an “alternative pathway.” If a living priest in the archdiocese were accused over the state’s toll-free abuse hotline, “then that information should of course be forwarded immediately to the District Attorney for the county in which the abuse allegedly occurred,” the letter stated.

“The archdiocese claimed the records were sealed as part of a 2012 bankruptcy case.”
That’s easy enough to sort out. A Court Seal doesn’t protect against criminal activity.

Show me the man and I will tell you his crime.
This stuff has already been settled. I live in this archdiocese and as far as I’m aware, there isn’t a single priest still serving who is a pedophile. They are either dead or have served prison terms or are still in prison today. I’m very well informed as to what’s gone on here and there isn’t anything new here. Kaul is a democrat seeking re-election next year and wants to drum up some news stories of old pedo cases. While I don’t like the way the archdiocese acted and settled these cases, as far as active pedophile cases, I don’t believe there are any. This is Josh Kaul trying to dodge the sexual harassment accusations in his own department in Madison, by diverting attention to another after…except it’s a dead topic.

As far as you’re aware.

Believe what you’d like….this is a political move.
I have no doubt. Most of them are.

177 in just one diocese.
Milwaukee isnt a huge city either, its medium.
And its midwest.
Take that number into context then when considering large urban areas on the more liberal coasts.
177 will be relatively small in comparison.
What a disaster the RCC turned into. Lay people had zero ability to stop it, they do not approve or deny priests, its solely the bishops and archbishops shuffling around problem priests and giving minimal info to the laity. A little more info to the head priest at wherever they went, maybe.
It was their fiefdoms and they kept it all under wraps.
S I said, sadly I know more than I care to.

Yep, typical liberal projection
The Catholic Church does not have a pedophile problem, it has a homosexual predator problem.
It has both. The two are intertwined.
Lay people had zero ability to stop it
Not completely true. What about the parents who reported abuse of their minor children to the church, without going directly to the police? It happened. I don't know why. If someone molested my kid, I would go to the police first whether the accused molester was an average Joe, the parish priest, the president, or the pope. (This would be after I resisted my first impulse, which would be to shoot the perp.)
