About ONE guy from ONE band.
If anyone wants to hear good Christian Rock and Roll, check out Caspar McCloud. He is my pastor and a phenomenal musician. He has several albums out, but it seems Christian music stations are involved in pay-to-play, just like secular stations.
Judas betrayed Jesus because he wanted a warrior lord...Today’s Christians betray Jesus because they want a no problem with sin lord.....
When your career comes first, sometimes you have to crossover to a more popular genre.;-)
I never listen to “contemporary” Christian music anymore with a few rare exceptions. Nothing coming out now is Christian in nature, and only serves to further cement a person on their way to the other place. I too prefer the old hymns, and that’s pretty much all I listen to now. People think I’m nuts when they hear Amazing Grace blaring out my car radio!
Some people surrender their lives to Him and some people run away and try to pretend otherwise...but, in their heart-of-hearts, they all know He is there.
I don’t understand why this author so despises Kanye West. From my perspective, it looks like the man has had a significant change of heart within the past couple of years.
I keep repeating but for posterity,”Church of Laodecia.” Watering down the gospel times. lukewarm people can’t hear Jesus knocking.
Having worked in Christian music since its very inception, I can tell you that “Christian” music ceased to be Christian a long time ago. It is worse than secular music in that it has all the secular (lack of) values PLUS a religious presumption added to it. We used to joke that any “Christian” project would be charged double, and if everything went as promised we’d give a rebate. And we’re Christians! I can’t tell you how many times we have been told we should work for free because this was “for the Lord”!
Many of the heads of labels have no idea of what is truth in the Word, so if the music is leading someone astray they don’t care. Plus, they get hammered from all sides who disagree on what truth is anyway, so why bother.
For waaaaay too many musicians in church it is just their “Sunday morning gig”, not an opportunity to worship the maker of heaven and earth. For many others it is their “chance to be discovered”. I haven’t listened to “Christian” music in at least 25 years.
I get a bad vibe...
The Christian radio station I listen to has gone to playing ‘praise music’ in the hour before I get to church on Sundays. I have to turn it off, so full of those vain repetitions and what God is supposed to do for ME ME ME ME ME.
It is not scriptural, period - and anyone who believes that worship music needs to appeal to the listener in that way is apostate - and I do not use that term lightly.
It’s a travesty that electric guitars and drums have chased organs and choirs out of most churches and that hymn-writing has become a lost art.
My son-in-law is a contemporary Christian song writer. He has over 300 songs with a few of em being sung by verrry well-known artists.
He told me that contemporary Christian music genre is the most corrupt and cut-throat of all the music genres. I asked him why that was, and he basically told me that it’s a very small genre compared to say rock or country so they fight for the audience anyway they can. He told me most of em are just in it for the money and really have no personal/spiritual ties to Christianity...kinda like having Bible publishers having Bibles printed in China sort of thing.
FWIW, he’s had at least 3 songs stolen out from under him with one of em becoming extremely popular. I think he now copyrights his very thoughts....LOL. It got so bad that he back to school to become an attorney. He pass the BAR and opened up his own firm to cater to up and coming artists and writers to keep from getting ripped off.
Personally, have little to no interest for the genre myself, but a lot of young, impressionable people do.
Roll your eyes all you want, but Stryper is still singing for Jesus Christ and are even better than before. Many “Christian” bands have come and gone and, yet, while Stryper have had struggles thru the years like most Christians, they are still at it and unashamed of the Gospel. I would put up their music with any contemporary band. They were considered a gimmick by believers and non-believers, but they have soldiered on. Many have been saved thru their ministry.
Christians get angry when their idols are torn down.
Good! Separating wheat from the chaff. These “artists” have had center stage for far too long. Center stage belongs to Christ and God the Father. All these trendy repetitive songs and the people singing a lot of them are bilge.
Well, there *are* downsides to praise music.
You and me both. Not a fan of the Gettys or of Stuart Rownend, Matt Papa, etc. Etc.
Give me some Isaac Watts or Charles Wesley anyday.
Judgement will be harsh for those who renounce our Lord and Savior.
