Today, 36 faith institutions from 11 countries announce their divestment from fossil fuels. It comes from institutions in Brazil, Argentina, India, the Philippines, Uganda, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Ireland, the UK and the United States.
Today’s announcement comes from Anglican, Catholic, Methodist, Presbyterian and Baptist institutions, among others. The group includes the Church in Wales, with more than £700 million ($975 million) of assets under management, which voted to divest from fossil fuels at its Governing Body meeting in April. It also includes the Diocese of Bristol and the Diocese of Oxford, the first Church of England dioceses to announce their divestment from fossil fuels, as well as seven Catholic dioceses from the UK and Ireland and several religious orders from around the world.
The global divestment announcement, which takes place as the UK prepares to host the G7 Summit in June and the UN climate summit (COP26) in Glasgow in November, demonstrates the leadership of faith organisations highlighting the urgent need to divest from fossil fuels and invest in clean alternatives in response to the growing climate crisis.
As governments around the world continue to invest significant sums in economic recovery packages, it is vital that these investments support a just and green recovery from Covid-19. Yet, as the UN has stated, only 18% of the Covid-19 recovery spending announced by the world’s 50 biggest economies in 2020 can be considered green. Governments have given considerable financial support to the fossil fuel industry in their Covid-19 recovery packages.
The announcement comes a day before the Royal Dutch Shell AGM is set to take place, on Tuesday 18 May. Shell has been coming under considerable pressure as a result of its plans to increase gas production by 20 per cent in the next few years. The Methodist Church announced it had.......

The Globalist Control Freaks have assimilated everything and everyone.
The Borg.
I hope all of you realize that petrochemical companies will be of tremendous value once everyone who believes in this global nonsense divests of their stock. The smart investors will put EVERYTHING in petrochemical stocks so when the Green New Deal etc. bombs completely, and the only reliable game in town is nat gas, oil, etc, then those stocks will skyrocket and make their holders very wealthy.
BUY EXXON and other stocks. They will be worth billions.
Yep, ya gotta love it when someone or an institution suddenly thinks they’re an expert in another field. It’s like me deciding to do a brain surgery today simply because I slept in a Holiday Inn Express last night. These clowns have no idea of the burden they just shoved on those at the margin who will suffer in the pending economic contraction. Nothing worse than an idiot with good intentions.
Catholic church honoring St. Gaia
Fools. One and all. Not a properly educated and informed person among them. I’ll call out the Philippines in particular as I lived there for 9 years. How the heck do they think anyone would be able to actually get there without Jet Fuel?
Industrialized nations, how exactly will you export your products to countries around the planet without petroleum?
Ford released the F-150 Lightning. Car and Driver have just said the range for this “truck” is less than 100 miles with a full load. Contactors, good luck with that!!!
All we have to do, is “re-imagine” what we are doing. We frequently hear we have to “re-imagine” and then changes are just supposed to happen.
In the case of airplanes, do they think we can put a solar panel on a plane??? Ditto ships.
The world is going to rely on “fossil fuels” (actually a misnomer) for decades if not centuries to come, as they are high in BTU’s, the system of handling them is well established, and much of the infrastructure is already in place for most efficient processing and distribution of this relative compact storehouse of energy.
There never was anything like “peak production” of petroleum, because if push comes to shove, a very good grade of kerogen can be made from a process called thermal depolymerization, in which many forms of organic waste can be converted, by pressure and heat, into any of a number of different fractions of extracted petroleum.
All it takes is plenty of heat and a closed retort in which the organic material, in a water slurry, is heated for sufficient amount of time to break down the polymers into simpler alkanes. If you want heat, lots of heat, from a sustainable source, the use of a thorium-fueled molten salt reactor would proved the necessary BTU’s to drive the system.
And generate a generous supply of electric power at the same time.
We have the technology to accomplish all this, and only the will to apply it is lacking.
Pedal power baby. Don’t even think about electric cars that’s still a sin.
Virtue-signaling clowns.
Institution being the operative word.
“All we have to do, is “re-imagine” what we are doing. We frequently hear we have to “re-imagine” and then changes are just supposed to happen.”
LOL! Do we have to buy some Ruby Slippers and click our heels together three times before we “re-imagine”?
And just think - once you exceed its range, however unpredictable that will be - you've got a brick with your tools in it...
These idiots ought to go back and read Revelations 2 again.
Yeah, no kidding! I can gas up my F150 anywhere.
Idiots
