Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 56

Psalm 56[a]

For the director of music. To the tune of “A Dove on Distant Oaks.” Of David. A miktam.[b] When the Philistines had seized him in Gath.

1 Be merciful to me, my God,
    for my enemies are in hot pursuit;
    all day long they press their attack.
2 My adversaries pursue me all day long;
    in their pride many are attacking me.

3 When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
4     In God, whose word I praise—
in God I trust and am not afraid.
    What can mere mortals do to me?

5 All day long they twist my words;
    all their schemes are for my ruin.
6 They conspire, they lurk,
    they watch my steps,
    hoping to take my life.
7 Because of their wickedness do not[c] let them escape;
    in your anger, God, bring the nations down.

8 Record my misery;
    list my tears on your scroll[d]—
    are they not in your record?
9 Then my enemies will turn back
    when I call for help.
    By this I will know that God is for me.

10 In God, whose word I praise,
    in the Lord, whose word I praise—
11 in God I trust and am not afraid.
    What can man do to me?

12 I am under vows to you, my God;
    I will present my thank offerings to you.
13 For you have delivered me from death
    and my feet from stumbling,
that I may walk before God
    in the light of life.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

After hiding for several gloomy days, the sunshine burst forth this morning just in time for my Morning Walk with Penny. I was glad for that, because Penny balks so much in the rain that the Morning Walk is ruined. This morning, she pranced along, happy for the beautiful, sunny, Springtime.

That was a good thing, because my time is very limited this morning. I have an adult student showing up at 10:00AM for a voice lesson, and I have no time to spare.

After brewing coffee, preparing the Thread, walking Penny, making her food, making my own breakfast, doing my Devotional reading, and setting up for the lessom, the sunshine moved across the living room floor and hit the kitchen. The black, shiny, ceramic tile floor was FILTHY! Like a Hollywood searchlight, the sunlight illuminated every speck of dust, crumb, and doggie hair and filled me with shame. My student had to walk through the kitchen to get to the living room. My time was managed down to the second. There was no time to wash the floor. I swept as much as I could and used wet-wipes to go after the worst spots. Of course, the wet-wipes were not meant for shiny tile, so the result was streaky swirls which were further illuminated by the sunbeam.

With laser-like intensity, the sunbeam searched the floor, revealing my lax housekeeping. I could stand it no longer! I have a thread to get out and a lesson to teach. I couldn't help but not that my student is an Eastern European lady, and her house is so immaculate that one could do brain surgery on her kitchen table! Argh!

As I started typing today's Meditation, the thought occurred to me that , once-upon-a-time, my student lived in a far less luxurious home. Did I say she was from Eastern Europe? Well, not quite. She is actually from Omsk, an industrial city in Siberia! Now, I may not live in a Palace, but it sure ain't Siberia! So here it is 8:30, and I'm writing the Thread, but I don't feel so bad about my kitchen floor after all. I'll take care of it after the lesson.

And, unintentionally, my tale of woe again coincides with my daily prayer:

"Let all that has been concealed,
Be Revealed."

On gloomy, rainy days, my kitchen floor looks fine. But this morning, the baleful eye of the sun caught up with me! Light illuminates the soul, but also exposes sin in a way that accusation falls short. If somebody came in and said, "Your kitchen floor needs to be washed." I would take umbrage. But the sunlight, breaking through the clouds, silently pouring into the window, revealed all. The accuser can accuse all day long, but the Spirit, in illuminating the heart, reveals all that is concealed.

Here is the difference between Accusation and Conviction. If the "revelation' is accusation without solution, it only brings condemnation. That is why the enemy of our souls is called "The Accuser".

If, on the other hand, The "revelation" brings about repentance, a change of heart, and a solution, it is like the sunbeam...it is conviction, and comes from the Holy Spirit.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

Psalm 132

A Song of Ascents.

1 O Lord, remember in David’s favor
all the hardships he endured;
2 how he swore to the Lord
and vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob,
3 ‘I will not enter my house
or get into my bed;
4 I will not give sleep to my eyes
or slumber to my eyelids,
5 until I find a place for the Lord,
a dwelling-place for the Mighty One of Jacob.’

6 We heard of it in Ephrathah;
we found it in the fields of Jaar.
7 ‘Let us go to his dwelling-place;
let us worship at his footstool.’

8 Rise up, O Lord, and go to your resting-place,
you and the ark of your might.
9 Let your priests be clothed with righteousness,
and let your faithful shout for joy.
10 For your servant David’s sake
do not turn away the face of your anointed one.

11 The Lord swore to David a sure oath
from which he will not turn back:
‘One of the sons of your body
I will set on your throne.
12 If your sons keep my covenant
and my decrees that I shall teach them,
their sons also, for evermore,
shall sit on your throne.’

13 For the Lord has chosen Zion;
he has desired it for his habitation:
14 ‘This is my resting-place for ever;
here I will reside, for I have desired it.
15 I will abundantly bless its provisions;
I will satisfy its poor with bread.
16 Its priests I will clothe with salvation,
and its faithful will shout for joy.
17 There I will cause a horn to sprout up for David;
I have prepared a lamp for my anointed one.
18 His enemies I will clothe with disgrace,
but on him, his crown will gleam.’

Thank you for your worshipful acknowledgement of the Holy Spirit’s ministry. Unlike our own (ahem) miserable hamhanded attempts, He has the finesse to meet each person with exactly the correct approach tailored to their individual needs—because He knows and loves us better than we do.

..LOL! Don’t count on it. I have two lessons this afternoon followed by a three-hour rehearsal for Sunday, which means no time for deep-cleaning.

I wish I could hire a crew to take care of my housework. Why is a mere 754 sq’ ft. so impossible to keep clean?

I suppose if I had nothing else to do...

When Cheryl and I were newlyweds, we lived in a rear house which was a nicely converted garage, 400 sq ft. When Susanna was born, she never learned to crawl, because there was nowhere to crawl to. Joanna came a year later, so we moved into a two-bedroom duplex. To induce Susanna to crawl, Cheryl laid a line of Cheerios in front of her.
