St. Petersburg, April 26, Interfax - Russian and Syrian archaeologists are carrying out a project aimed to preserve early Christian churches in Syria, the press service of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Institute for the History of Material Culture said.
"A Russian-Syrian expedition has started working in Syria; its goal is to study the preservation of early Christian monuments in the Syrian territory and to record the damage done to medieval temples by the war," the press service said.
The first studies were conducted at Byzantine monuments of the early Middle Ages: a church built in the 5th-6th century in the Deir al-Salib village in the Hama province in northern Syria and the Qasr Ibn Wardan basilica also known as the Temple of the Four Elements.
The archaeologists have found three early Christian churches visibly damaged by the war. Further preservation of those monuments will depend on the timely recording of the damage. This is proven by the example of Palmyra, where scientists from the RAS Institute for the History of Material Culture initiated the development of a 3D model in 2016. The model has been presented to the Syrian side for preparing conservation projects.
It is planned for now that the two-year expedition will examine about a dozen early Christian churches in Syria, will carry out their photo and video recording, and will prepare orthophotomaps and 3D models. All materials will be handed over to Syria.
It is sad that this thread has gotten no posts.
The more research that is done in finding and exploring early Christian sites the more positive proof is seen reinforcing the reliability of the Scriptures.
Every day all are called to recognize and believe Jesus the Christ is Lord and come to repentance through faith to receive salvation.
There are only two powers one may serve while on this Earth, one must choose to follow Jesus or to follow Satan. The scriptures plainly tell that one may know whom one follows by the fruit on their tree.
What fruit is growing on our tree is the question for reflection before it is eternally too late.
Father show us your glory that we might repent and see You heal our land!
