How did Jesus put it on the cross? ... 'Paid in full'. A works based Christianity look-a-like asserting that Jesus did not pay it in full, an adherent has to paid part of the price FOR GRACE!

Of course there is no price we can pay to have the Righteousness of Christ. Before we are Saved or after we are born again. A man cannot reconcile himself to God. ONY God can reconcile a destitute sinner -with no righteousness- to God. GOD has chosen to do that act of Grace for EVERYONE who believes in Whom God sent to reconcile us to Himself.

HOWEVER, once we have had imputed to us (that's the only way we can get righteousness on God's scale) the righteousness of Christ o that GOD's seed ABIDES in us (1 JOhn 3:9), THEN GOD expects our participation in the sanctification process which He, God, desires for His children.

Too often folks flip flop the Justification phase with the sanctification phase. And often these same people will deny there is coming a moment when God will glorify His Justified ones -regardless of how sanctified they have become- and sntch us outta here.

Purgatory is not theology. It’s as fake as climate change.

Most catholics will never acknowledge how many millions of Christians their church killed. They will never admit that their leadership is trying to form up with Islam. They’re in deep denial. People are easily deceived. That’s why it’s so important to be reading God’s word, also not some man made jumbo.

WOAH, we have a superhero among us!

Magically reading the minds and knowing the motives of 16th Century theologians is a really heckin’ lame superpower, though.

Not gonna get you into the Avengers.

>>The only Truth Catholicism needs to worry about is that found in Scripture.

All the add-ons that it tacked onto Scripture in the form of the Catechism of the catholic church are not divinely inspired Scripture, hence, not Truth or even true.<<<

Obviously I disagree. Sola Scriptura is “unbiblical”

We will have to agree to disagree.

“unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.”

Yep agree 100%. Thats why baptism is so important.

Rejoice in Christ always!

My name is Chris.

I am reminded of two verses from the Holy Gospel that I wish to share with you as a preamble to my note.

“38 But Jesus said, Forbid him no more; no one who does a miracle in my name will lightly speak evil of me. 39 The man who is not against you is on your side.”

In all charity, Your recent article in Christian Post on the subject of Purgatory is Shallow, short sighted and uninformed. It reads very much like an attempt to be a relevant, edgy buzz piece.

I wish to offer you the sincere opportunity to talk to a moderately well informed Catholic on the subject to privately clarify your misconceptions. While the Catechism of The Catholic Church is indeed the common catechism of the faith, it is ti be understood in conjunction with the Catechism of Trent and the entire Deposit of Faith.

To begin:

A reasonably simple articulation of the dogmatic doctrine of purgatory can be found in the Catholic Encyclopedia. (Link attached) https://www.newadvent.org/cathen/12575a.htm

Purgatory was first defined formally defined by the bishop of Rome, Gregory X, in Lyon France in 1274 and was supported most obviously scripturally in maccabees, until the book was eventually rejected by Luther some 250 years later.

If you were truly sincere in investigating the Doctrine of purgatory, I’m quite sure you would have also looked at other Councils that spoke on the matter The Council of Florence in 1431 and the Council of Trent in 1545 speak with greater nuance than the strawman presentation you gave it.

In fact, common faith in purgatory is held not only my the mother of St. Augustine, but is supported by scriptures you still hold to be inspired. (1 Cor 3:15 and Matt. 12:32)

As a brother in the Faith, I reminded you that as always you, and you must remember this, no prophecy in scripture is the subject of private interpretation. (loosely quoting 2 peter)

Feel free to hit me up If you wish to move beyond the the shallow waters christianity you appear to be pushing.

In Christ,

Chris.

Right off the bat, the author misstates what the RCC teaching on purgatory really is.

This is simply not true. From the article above the author quotes the Catechism....

If you have any doubts about this definition then you can check the Catholic Encyclopedia

Please note what the Catholic Encyclopedia states:

In other words, Christ death was not enough to satisfy sin. This, of course, is heresy.

Apparently you're uncomfortable with this definition.

I would refer you to post #175 above in which I refer to the Catholic Encyclopedia and the correct teachings of Purgatory. This isn’t a shallow argument nor is the article “shallow”. While you might quote from Mark 9:38-39, I would suggest that Paul was very stern with the Galatins whe were teaching that one needed to be circumcised in addition to the death of Christ.

It is very important that correct and sound doctrine be taught-and, while it is helpful to hear what others state, sound doctrine can only be taken from God’s Word. You will not find purgatory or any such idea in Scripture.

If one hour a week is too much to ask of someone in the worship of God.... well maybe that someone ought to look for another "religion"

Like Catholics actually obey the Sabbath?

We all know better, especially those of us raised Catholic.

One "hour" a week, coming in late and leaving early, is NO sacrifice at all.

For born again believers we consider every day of our lives to be a sacrifice to God in obedience to Him.

Romans 12:1-2 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Sola Scriptura is “unbiblical”

No, it's not.

Scripture is adequate for the spiritual growth of the believer into the likeness of Christ.

2 Timothy 3:14-17 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

Thats why baptism is so important.

Nope, if Jesus meant baptism, He would have used the word and not couched it in some means that needs to be *interpreted* for us by a religion.

They had a word for baptism and knew how to use it.

In this passage, Jesus is comparing and contrasting physical birth (water) and spiritual birth, which happens by the Holy Spirit, not by physical means.

Going through the motions of physical activity does not cause spiritual events to happen.

Getting dunked or sprinkled cannot make the Holy Spirit give a person new life.

I think you don’t realize Purgatory is not a place. It is a process and you will not find the word Purgatory in the Bible, like the word Trinity it is a word used to describe.

In my opinion there are no true scholarly disagreements about Purgatory, there is reality as born out in the Old and New Testaments, not to mention Jewish faith. There is also no intellectual justification for removing substantial parts of the Bible. For one, there remains dozens of direct references to those books (the theology) removed. It is also incredibly ignorant to believe the Bible is divinely derived but that after 1,500 years so eone could remove substantial parts that didn’t conveniently fit his/their “theology”. Part of which includes the heretical Sola Scriptura” which basically is a belief that God is not necessary for salvation, one may simply read the Bible and be assured that whatever they dream of as interpretation is solid theology. This anti Christian belief has resulted in there being over 20,000 versions of Protestant theology. Does that really sound like God’s plan? The Catholic Church was begun by Jesus and there is a lineage known and recorded ftom the beginning to this day. Some of the greatest minds in world history have given their lives in developing a fuller, richer theology. No Church, no human entity has helped more people in terms of salvation, Healthcare, feeding, education, etc than the Catholic Church. One out of five individuals are Catholic...we have the traditions passed down literally from the time Jesus walked this earth. We have the Eucharistic miracles, the miraculous apparitions, etc. I am a convert, I was raised Protestant and love my Protestant background, but being led to Catholicism has been one of the most beautiful things God has given me. It is like finally coming home.
