Vatican Official: Pope to Advance Sainthood Cause of EU 'Founding Father' Robert Schuman

Pope Francis could declare venerable the French statesman Robert Schuman, a key “founding father” of the European Union, a Vatican official has said.

Marcello Cardinal Semeraro, prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, said the pope could recognize his “heroic virtues” as early as June, Agence France Presse reports. Cardinal Semeraro told the French newspaper La Croix the Pope is likely to declare Schuman venerable before summer begins.

Father Bernard Ardura, an official in charge of proposed French canonizations, said Schuman’s cause was worthy of consideration.

“Schuman dedicated his life to serving the common good, seeking peace and reconciliation with Germany to create a community of European states,” Fr. Ardura told Agence France Presse.

“Schuman’s work involved putting an end to the infernal cycle of war, the humiliating defeat, the desire for revenge and more war,” the priest said, saying this cycle dated back to the defeat of France in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870.

Schuman’s efforts were ‘“the work of a Christian, which serves as an example,” said Fr. Ardura, even if the statesman “remained very discreet about his personal life and his faith.”

The EU was the product of Otto von Habsburg. He started working on it in the 1940s, as I recall.

Fidel Castro was baptized and raised a Catholic.

Will he be next?

Is this a joke, or did this man have a level of devotion to Christ that is not apparent in the excerpt?

Very devout Catholic like the other members of a pretty impressive generation of leaders in postwar Europe - Adenauer and de Gaspari - but not sure I see the basis for canonization.

My first thought on this is how could any politician by holy enough for sainthood.

Then I recalled that quite a few kings were canonized back in the day, and they made it in despite a fair amount of war and bloodshed.

Replacing it with an authoritarian regulatory apparatus run by the same oligarchy regimes that engineered the cycles of war, defeat and revenge. The desire for totalitarian rule is still there, just other less violent means have been devised to achieve it. Violent warfare is bad optics, a menace to investment resources and ruinously expensive.

Thank you. Let’s hope they are not canonizing him for his contribution to the EU.

Robert Schuman was a highly influential humanist and possible high ranking Free Mason who was notorious for pushing an anti Christian and anti Catholic agenda .

From a Christian perspective , Schuman was a man who wished to infiltrate the clergy to fundamentally change the Catholic Church's mission from service to Jesus and salvation of souls to a secular social services organization based on a Marxist/humanist philosophy with a goal fo supporting an united, secular European state (ie, the EU) with an eventual goal of a united world government

Francis is one of his collaborators Schuman may be a saint in some church but he is an anti saint from a Judaeo Christian perspective.

this just shows the depths my church has sunk to. it used to be extremely difficult to get two things...an annullment, and sainthood....

I’ve never heard of him, but from the looks of it, he was also apparently in favor of world government:

“Our century, that has witnessed the catastrophes resulting in the unending clash of nationalities and nationalisms, must attempt and succeed in reconciling nations in a supranational association. This would safeguard the diversities and aspirations of each nation while coordinating them in the same manner as the regions are coordinated within the unity of the nation.”

This was done by NATO, not the EU.

This is all part of the globalist desire for a world government. It is evil in its core.

It is all about human enslavement forever, with no place to escape.

It is the view our ruling class looks to, and why they want the United States weakened and the Constitution destroyed.
