Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds

Psalm 2

Psalm 2

1 Why do the nations conspire[a]
    and the peoples plot in vain?
2 The kings of the earth rise up
    and the rulers band together
    against the Lord and against his anointed, saying,
3 “Let us break their chains
    and throw off their shackles.”

4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
    the Lord scoffs at them.
5 He rebukes them in his anger
    and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
6 “I have installed my king
    on Zion, my holy mountain.”

7 I will proclaim the Lord’s decree:

He said to me, “You are my son;
    today I have become your father.
8 Ask me,
    and I will make the nations your inheritance,
    the ends of the earth your possession.
9 You will break them with a rod of iron[b];
    you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”

10 Therefore, you kings, be wise;
    be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear
    and celebrate his rule with trembling.
12 Kiss his son, or he will be angry
    and your way will lead to your destruction,
for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
    Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

Footnotes

1. Psalm 2:1 Hebrew; Septuagint rage
2. Psalm 2:9 Or will rule them with an iron scepter (see Septuagint and Syriac)

New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)

Psalm 2 paints a picture that could very easily be used to describe our Modern World.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

It's Saturday Night again, and time for the Sunday Morning Thread. Tomorrow will be a little weird, as I always seem to get discombobulated when we change the clocks in the Spring. It could be because I automatically lose an hour's sleep. In the Fall, I gain an hour, which can be just as disconcerting. It is a little illustration of a decree that seems minor on the surface, but can disrupt everybody's lives at the same time. A few states don't go along with it though, and I applaud them!

Daylight Saving Time isn't harmful, but is is annoying. Changing all the clocks and watches in the house and in my car is a pain, and once I arrived at a gig an hour late because I forgot to change my alarm clock. I dislike it but have to go along with it to be "in sync" with the rest of society.

In Psalm 2, the rulers of the earth conspire and rage together to rule the earth apart from God. Since God created the earth, these rulers actually have no power whatsoever. God can change everything in the twinkling of an eye. He sits in heaven and laughs at them. The problems ensue when the "kings of the earth" make decrees that go against the conscience. It is one thing to refrain from abusing or discriminating against people whose behavior one considers sinful. It is quite another to demand that one celebrates and endorses someone else's sinful lifestyle. That is "Thought Control" right out of "1984".

Another reprehensible abuse from "the kings of the earth" is what Our Constitution calls "ex post facto" which means "after the fact". This form of Goalpost-Moving makes innocuous things from the past suddenly toxic, and those who don't find them so are toxic as well. It is what is known in Psychology as "Gaslighting", and is a form of abuse.

To paraphrase a famous saying by Rev. Martin Niemöller:

First they came for Dr. Seuss
But I haven't read Dr. Seuss for over 60 years so I didn't speak up.
Then they came for Pepe le Pew,
But that's just a cartoon so I didn't speak up.
Then they came for "Gone With The Wind"
But I've seen it so many times that I didn't speak up.
Then they came for my Bible.
And there was nobody left to speak up for me.
They had all been cancelled.

Have a Good Night, and don't forget to turn your clocks ahead.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America!

I have had reminders all day about the clock thing and haven’t done it yet. But after I say Amen to your post, I am heading for at least one alarm clock!

AMEN!

Since our pastor retired (wife played the piano) I’m it for the music. Can’t seem to find a guitar player that wants to play yet. All the wasted years of no practicing . . . I do believe God has felt a little sorry for me for the past three Sundays . . . I am glad that the piano that was donated to the church quite a few years ago has volume!

Amen.
I was late or early for so many services, I had people contact me the day before to remind me. I finally came up with a working system, but it’s a lesson in how pride and rebellion ( I disapprove of DST) can lead to a lesson in humility.

We could, all of us, move to Hawaii, where they don't have DST. We could fill the 50th State with so many conservatives that it could change the politics of the Island forever...or tip them over. LOL.

Amen !!! <><

Psalm 110

Of David. A Psalm.

1 The Lord says to my lord,
‘Sit at my right hand
until I make your enemies your footstool.’

2 The Lord sends out from Zion
your mighty sceptre.
Rule in the midst of your foes.
3 Your people will offer themselves willingly
on the day you lead your forces
on the holy mountains.*
From the womb of the morning,
like dew, your youth* will come to you.
4 The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind,
‘You are a priest for ever according to the order of Melchizedek.’*

5 The Lord is at your right hand;
he will shatter kings on the day of his wrath.
6 He will execute judgement among the nations,
filling them with corpses;
he will shatter heads
over the wide earth.
7 He will drink from the stream by the path;
therefore he will lift up his head.
