Almighty and Everlasting Father,
How Glorious and Wonderful is Your Most Holy Name!
You Alone Are Worthy of Worship and Praise,
For You Alone Are The One True God,
Almighty and Eternal,
Glorious and Transcendent,
Rock of Ages,
Ancient of Days,
King of Kings,
and Lord of Lords!

Let All That Has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

This Portion of Scripture reminded me of this portion of John 10:

"16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. "

Hearing this as a child in 1950's Boston, I assumed that there were only three "religions" on the planet, Catholic, Protestant, and Jewish. So maybe Jesus was just going to round everybody up someday and put them all in the same flock! (A simplistic ecumenical model, to be sure, but I was 7 years old!)

Now, looking back, over 60 years, the statement becomes a bit clearer. Even theologians argue about it, saying that Jesus is speaking of the "Lost Tribes of Israel", Samaritans, or Gentiles. Upon reading Today's Passage from Isaiah, it becomes a bit more clear.

Isaiah was speaking to his own Jewish People. There was a big divide between Jews and Gentiles, so when he speaks of "The Other", he is referring to Gentiles. Other Passages in Isaiah confirm this:

"I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me; I was found by those who did not seek me. To a nation that did not call on my name, I said, 'Here am I, here am I.' (Isaiah 65:1)

The mission to bring The Word of God to the Gentiles fell to St. Paul, who always got into a load of trouble when he spoke of this, sometimes causing riots.

The Flock is still not complete, and there are more "religions" in the world than I ever could imagine as a seven-year-old, but God is Able to do what He said He would do.

[Hebrews 11:6]

It grieves me, again and again, when I read of the incredulity of first century folk, and their fierce hostility, to the concept that Gentiles might also partake of God's mercy. "Also"? How can anyone who begrudges the Gentiles' participation himself be a true believer? "Love your neighbor"?! Seems like it was an excellent litmus test.

Of course, I rank alongside Paul as the chief of sinners, so I have no authority to cast any stone, let alone the first. But I can marvel....

Besides, how can God accept my prayers for the peace of J-town if I'm busily accusing others?
