While nobody can know the exact hour and day Luke 21 gives multiple sights to look for to know Christ’s return is drawing near. Jesus concludes by saying: “Luke 21:28 (ESV): Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” Matthew 24 covers much the same territory but I believe the passage in Luke is clearer.

Just a point about Luke 21. In Luke’s version of the Olivet Discourse, specifically Luke 21:20–24, there are details that were entirely fulfilled in 70 A.D. the New Scofield Reference Bible says that as well.

And 25 to 28

25 “There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. 26 People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. 27 At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

Luke 21:5-36 deals with the answer to the question: WHEN WILL THE TEMPLE BE DESTROYED?

Luke 17:22-37 deals with the answer to the question WHAT WILL BE THE SIGN OF YOUR COMING AND OF THE CLOSE OF THE AGE?
