Here is a quick 2 min clip I made and uploaded to youtube of Ben Shapiro describing what is essentially the mark of the beast. But because he's Jewish and doesn't accept the New Testament, he won't truly understand what he's seeing.

He sees it overtaking the US. But really it's overtaking the world.
He also describes the iron triangle of media, corporations, and the democrat party are the ones bringing it to pass. This is how they are stopping you from buying and selling. This is the sign John describes in Rev 13.

[To Recap] The mark of the beast is not a physical mark. John describes the mark in the forehead the same for both God and the devil. In Rev 14 he starts off by saying "...having his Father’s name written in their foreheads." John describes it this way as because the forehead is like a sign post. It's a person's countenance. It refers to a person's actions and language. Have you ever heard the term "Do I have loser written on my forehead?" It's the same thing.
The mark in the hand is your deeds. "Raise your right hand...". It represents voting, sustaining, advocating for... In other words, both thought and deed they advocate for the cause of God or the devil. That is what John is describing.
John says you'll know this because there is a sign given. In the last days, if you are not part of the ideology of the devil, you won't be able to buy or sell. Therefore, you'll know what to reject, you'll be persecuted for it, but you have to reject that ideology.
It becomes more and more clear as people become more and more evil that there isn't any fence sitting. No luke warm bodies. Gina Carano is the perfect example. Any deviation at all from the left's message will get you shut down and fired. Gina Carano can't buy or sell in Hollywood now. All of her future earnings are gone. Therefore, you're either all in or nothing.
And if you're not all in, you will be persecuted as the Lord said you would be. But that's a good thing! Hard to believe but that's the promise of the last days.
The mark of the beast will be accepted when a person agrees that the anti-Christ is God. It won’t happen by accident. It won’t happen by getting a vaccine or a national card or whatever. The anti-Christ will require you to declare that he is God. It is that simple. You won’t get it by accident.
But when that time comes.... many religious leaders will be encouraging you to say the words.... rational like “God truly knows your heart, and saying something is not your heart.... God wants you to take care of your family.... God wants you to be able to tell others about him.... etc etc”. There will be dozens of religious sounding excuses for saying the anti-Christ is God. All bad ideas.

Same here. I rented the vhs tapes multiple times in the early eighties. These were instrumental in my passion for prophecy.
For a new convert to Christianity, this series lays the groundwork.
If I could find those tapes I would buy them in a heart beat. Of course I’m sure they can be found on other media, but I still have my old VCR player/recorder!

Is that why you don’t believe it’s a real, physical mark which is the most reasonable reading of that passage?

Nothing to do with the mark of the beast. Just ageless strategies of tyranny. There has never been a tyranny that did not include mark of the beast characteristics. All of them.

Perhaps toj would be well to remember the admonishment in the revelation; Woe to him who adds to these words.
It is generally concerning from a believers standpoint when someone interprets the revelation to for a modern event. It is clear that the perfect and inerrant word of God warns us about this. See revelation 22:18-19
