'Born-Alive' Amendment Fails Again in the Senate

Washington D.C., Feb 5, 2021 / 08:05 am MT (CNA).- On Thursday evening, the Senate rejected a measure requiring care for babies who survive abortion attempts.

As part of consideration of a budget resolution on Thursday, Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) tried to insert an amendment based on his Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. The legislation requires that babies born alive during botched abortions receive the same standard of care that other newborns of the same gestational age would.

Sasse’s amendment failed to receive the necessary 60 votes to be included in the budget resolution, receiving only 52 votes in favor and 48 votes against.

Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Bob Casey (D-Penn.) were the only two Democrats who joined Senate Republicans in supporting Sasse’s amendment.

Pro-life groups stated their disapproval with the amendment’s failure to pass.

“Appalled that this didn't pass,” Democrats for Life of America tweeted. “There's nothing Democratic about denying medical care to newborn survivors of abortion.”

“Thank you @SenSasse for introducing the amendment tonight that simply requires EQUAL medical care for infants, whether they're born in the L&D ward of a hospital, or ‘accidentally’ in an abortion facility,” Susan B. Anthony List stated.

Yep. Bears repeating. We have been betrayed by our representatives every step of the way. How many "catholic" senators voted for killing newborns? They are the true fascists. Anyone with a speck of common sense knows killing a newborn baby is murder. You don't even have to believe in God to know it's wrong.

Yep.

They had every chance to send it to Trump to sign but Sissy was probably offended that Trump would have signed it.

These Senators voted to murder an innocent child. Almighty God most likely has a response for this.

“...is murder. You don’t even have to believe in God to know it’s wrong.“

It’s natural law.

It would have taken 60 votes to overcome a Democrat filibuster. Show me the whip count as to how they would have passed this? They didn’t have 60
votes then or now.

You really have to have had your head in the sand to make that kind of a statement. More pro-life has been passed in the last 10 years with the ascendancy of the GOP to state legislatures than at any other time in modern history.

And both President Bush and President Trump enacted tons of pro-life policies during their tenure at the executive level and signed significant legislation into law that were passed by Congress when it was under GOP control.

In addition, this vote was unanimous among Republicans - all 50 - and this is not an election year - so clearly they didn't "drop it."

As false as false can be. They have tried to pass this before and the Democrats except for a couple were in lock step against it to block it from getting a vote.

And they did try to pass it before while Trump was President. So that was a false charge.

The fact that this vote was not used in the Senate races more is beyond me. There is probably not a single jurisdiction where anywhere near a majority supports killing babies who have been born.

This is how the DC game is played. They only introduce bills when they can’t pass. Both parties want permeant issues to use with their voting bloc, but they have no intention of actually ever resolving those issues, because the purpose of the issue is for them to get reelected, not to solve issues.

Yet they somehow managed to get it to BOs desk and Clinton before him.

But never when a Republican President who would sign it is in office.

Curious.

Perhaps Sissy and the Wimps is not actually that interested in it becoming law.

And that 60 votes excuse is BS.

Abortion is extreme child abuse; it’s also murder.

Murder without judgment is meaningless. It isn’t Natural Law because murder invokes a moral judgment, as it involves malice. Mere killing doesn’t.
