Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds
.
Isaiah 5:8-17
Woes and Judgments
8 Woe to you who add house to house
and join field to field
till no space is left
and you live alone in the land.
9 The Lord Almighty has declared in my hearing:
“Surely the great houses will become desolate,
the fine mansions left without occupants.
10 A ten-acre vineyard will produce only a bath[a] of wine;
a homer[b] of seed will yield only an ephah[c] of grain.”
11 Woe to those who rise early in the morning
to run after their drinks,
who stay up late at night
till they are inflamed with wine.
12 They have harps and lyres at their banquets,
pipes and timbrels and wine,
but they have no regard for the deeds of the Lord,
no respect for the work of his hands.
13 Therefore my people will go into exile
for lack of understanding;
those of high rank will die of hunger
and the common people will be parched with thirst.
14 Therefore Death expands its jaws,
opening wide its mouth;
into it will descend their nobles and masses
with all their brawlers and revelers.
15 So people will be brought low
and everyone humbled,
the eyes of the arrogant humbled.
16 But the Lord Almighty will be exalted by his justice,
and the holy God will be proved holy by his righteous acts.
17 Then sheep will graze as in their own pasture;
lambs will feed[d] among the ruins of the rich.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
How Blessed and Wonderful is Your Most Holy Name!
How Magnificent,
How Holy,
How Sanctified and Glorious!
When I Awake in the Morning,
You Are There.
All through the day,
You are with me.
And When I go to Sleep at Night,
You Are Still Watching Over Us All.
For You Neither Slumber Nor Sleep.
LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.
We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

It's Saturday Night again, and time for Tomorrow Morning's Thread. Back when we looked at "Music in the Bible", Isaiah 5 came up. That's because it is an actual SONG, The "Song of the Vineyard". While most of the imagery in the song is about a Vineyard, and chastises God's People for sin (calling evil "good" and calling good "evil"), there is a positive Promise at the end. That is what I am citing it here. Forgiveness, Restoration, and Peace are symbolized, not by a healthy fruitful Vineyard, but by sheep grazing wherever they want without fear of predators.
This beautiful vision follows a denunciation of crowded, violent cities, where people pack houses side by side and adjoin field to field. It would seem to me that Isaiah was not fond of cities, and in his capacity as a Prophet of God, he may have been expressing God's opinion too. Of course, cities can be wonderful, vibrant, exciting places, but there is an element of danger lurking in dark alleys. There is always that inevitable "bad side of town" where sin and crime are part of the economy.
And yet, The Psalmist calls Jerusalem a "city compacted together" as if it is a good thing. What's the difference?
If Jerusalem is The "City of Our God" and "The Mountain of His Holiness", then "togetherness" is a good thing. If, however, it is a godless city, then it can be a horrible place.
There are some cities in America where you don't want to be at night. There are others that you want to avoid all the time. Is it a coincidence that these places are strongholds of "liberalism" and have forgotten God? Hmmmmmm.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)
God Bless America!

Not trying to debate it, merely offering an extra perspective: while cities surely have their dangers, at least there is the possibility of screaming for help; whereas no help (other than You Know Whom) is available in remote country places. At least that was Sherlock Holmes' stated opinion.
But I take your Saturday Evening Point. And I join enthusiastically in your Saturday Evening Post Prayer.
