God gave us the good, the bad, and the disheartening of His Story (History) so we could take lessons from them all. Had He allowed the bad to be whitewashed away, we would all be headed for destruction from our inability to see the consequences of ignoring His warnings.
Too bad good King Josiah did not properly study all the exploits of King David. The lessons were there, maybe not yet compelled since much was compiled after the deportation, but the records were there to read.
