The Bible encourages us to meditate on it (Ps. 1:1-3, 119:11-16, etc.); these artists have done so, and their works can assist us and enrich our own thoughts about biblical characters, incidents and concepts, and increase our faith in He who is behind it all. As you encounter and consider these images and the related Scriptures and the Spirit enlightens your understanding, please share it with us!
But it is not only oil-on-canvas that can so help us; I refer to the astonishing video series The Chosen, which strolls through the four Gospels at the most leisurely pace. The eight episodes of Season 1 are finished, and the second of a planned seven seasons is being filmed right now. I say "leisurely" because after an entire year's viewing Jesus still has only seven of the apostles (although He's preparing to call up Thomas from the minor leagues--but Thomas is skeptical, of course). Anticipating a canvas of fifty-plus hours instead of a movie's paltry two hours, The Chosen turns the characters (especially including Jesus!) into three-dimensional humans and brings the Gospels alive--you have never seen anything even remotely like it! Here is the Official Trailer.
Here is a link for free viewing of The Chosen: "Works with your phone, tablet, and you can cast to your Roku or Chromecast." Last fall I paid $34.98 for DVDs and ongoing internet access—best 35 bucks I've ever spent (I don't recall how much our marriage license cost, but then it was 43 years ago).

Good Morning! :-)
AND IT WAS OVER TAXES!.........................sounds vaguely familiar......................
Cheers! Looks like JohnRob was able to repair FR’s Character Set issues last night, so we’re largely back-in-business.
Hmmmmm...Where have i heard THAT before?
No Taxation Without Rehoboamization!
Yeah...that character thingy was quite disconcerting.
But I knew it would be worked out.
Thanks so much for your faithfulness is posting “The Bible in Paintings!”
There was a split: Over HIGH TAXES. - American Revolutionary War
There was a split: NORTH vs SOUTH. - American Civil War
Foreign Empires attacked both countries: - American WWII
The two sides never signed a peace treaty - America’s Korean War
There was never ending enmity between the two - America’s Cold War
The NORTH was eventually defeated and taken into SLAVERY - America’s Vietnam War
The South was constantly attacked by foreign powers, Babylon, Greece, Persia, Rome, Islam with repercussions to this very day - America’s War on Terror...........................
I, too, am Perseverando. Actually, that’s not quite true: one perseveres in the face of adversity, whereas I love everything about doing this. “Cheerful Perseverando.”
Love these art posts.
Thanks
Glad to hear it! Hoping you find the Bible aspect of them rewarding, too,

Saul>>>>David>>>>Solomon>>>>Rehoboam. All downhill from there, with only an occasional uptick.
A man of God deceived by a false prophet...he believed the words of a human more than the words of God...a somber teaching story. Thank you!
Well put. It applies now every bit as much as then. As ol' Petey warned, "Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour."
The death of the prophet from Judah is one of many sad incidents in Kings.
He had clear instructions but didn’t follow them.
The prophet at Bethel lied to him and caused his death, but mourned over his death. This confuses me. Does that mean he didn’t intend to cause his death but merely wanted to entertain him for the night? And what kind of prophet would lie to another prophet about the word of God?
Many questions remain unanswered.
The Bible is absolutely chock-full of such imponderables as you mention, so full that I regard it not as a fault but as a feature: one never reaches the end of fascinating issues when closely examining Scripture. I trust these artists illumine at least a small portion of that darkness, but even Matthew Henry didn't scratch the surface.
As I age and near the end of my earthly sojourn, I wonder whether in the next life those questions' answers will be provided, or whether I still will care, or whether....
