Exodus 9
The Plague of Hail
13 Then the Lord said to Moses, Get up early in the morning, confront Pharaoh and say to him, This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me, 14 or this time I will send the full force of my plagues against you and against your officials and your people, so you may know that there is no one like me in all the earth. 15 For by now I could have stretched out my hand and struck you and your people with a plague that would have wiped you off the earth. 16 But I have raised you up[a] for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth. 17 You still set yourself against my people and will not let them go. 18 Therefore, at this time tomorrow I will send the worst hailstorm that has ever fallen on Egypt, from the day it was founded till now. 19 Give an order now to bring your livestock and everything you have in the field to a place of shelter, because the hail will fall on every person and animal that has not been brought in and is still out in the field, and they will die.
20 Those officials of Pharaoh who feared the word of the Lord hurried to bring their slaves and their livestock inside. 21 But those who ignored the word of the Lord left their slaves and livestock in the field.
22 Then the Lord said to Moses, Stretch out your hand toward the sky so that hail will fall all over Egypton people and animals and on everything growing in the fields of Egypt. 23 When Moses stretched out his staff toward the sky, the Lord sent thunder and hail, and lightning flashed down to the ground. So the Lord rained hail on the land of Egypt; 24 hail fell and lightning flashed back and forth. It was the worst storm in all the land of Egypt since it had become a nation. 25 Throughout Egypt hail struck everything in the fieldsboth people and animals; it beat down everything growing in the fields and stripped every tree. 26 The only place it did not hail was the land of Goshen, where the Israelites were.
27 Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron. This time I have sinned, he said to them. The Lord is in the right, and I and my people are in the wrong. 28 Pray to the Lord, for we have had enough thunder and hail. I will let you go; you dont have to stay any longer.
29 Moses replied, When I have gone out of the city, I will spread out my hands in prayer to the Lord. The thunder will stop and there will be no more hail, so you may know that the earth is the Lords. 30 But I know that you and your officials still do not fear the Lord God.
31 (The flax and barley were destroyed, since the barley had headed and the flax was in bloom. 32 The wheat and spelt, however, were not destroyed, because they ripen later.)
33 Then Moses left Pharaoh and went out of the city. He spread out his hands toward the Lord; the thunder and hail stopped, and the rain no longer poured down on the land. 34 When Pharaoh saw that the rain and hail and thunder had stopped, he sinned again: He and his officials hardened their hearts. 35 So Pharaohs heart was hard and he would not let the Israelites go, just as the Lord had said through Moses.
New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)
Now the Egyptians get a chance to save their crops and livestock, by LISTENING to The Word of God, and BELIEVING it. Is this a tiny foreshadowing of God reaching out to Gentiles? Just musing about it.

Psalm 92
A Psalm. A Song for the Sabbath Day.
1 It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to sing praises to your name, O Most High;
2 to declare your steadfast love in the morning,
and your faithfulness by night,
3 to the music of the lute and the harp,
to the melody of the lyre.
4 For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work;
at the works of your hands I sing for joy.
5 How great are your works, O Lord!
Your thoughts are very deep!
6 The dullard cannot know,
the stupid cannot understand this:
7 though the wicked sprout like grass
and all evildoers flourish,
they are doomed to destruction for ever,
8 but you, O Lord, are on high for ever.
9 For your enemies, O Lord,
for your enemies shall perish;
all evildoers shall be scattered.
10 But you have exalted my horn like that of the wild ox;
you have poured over me* fresh oil.
11 My eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies;
my ears have heard the doom of my evil assailants.
12 The righteous flourish like the palm tree,
and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13 They are planted in the house of the Lord;
they flourish in the courts of our God.
14 In old age they still produce fruit;
they are always green and full of sap,
15 showing that the Lord is upright;
he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

As I watched the big rally in Miami last night, I got very "homesick" for South Florida. The heat, the music, the passion of the people, and the ambiance were a stark contrast to the freezing rain and snow that caught me and my motorcycle by surprise last week. I had not had a chance to put it away for the winter, and now there is probably moisture and ice in the carburetor. I hardly ever use the "CHOKE", but I may have to get Medieval on Blue to get her to my Brother's Garage, 26 miles away. (sigh).
Ironically, the only other experience Blue has had with Ice and Hail was just a little north of Miami, in the far west corner of the Bermuda Triangle, at the corner of Oakland Park Blvd and State Road 7, in Fort Lauderdale during the Spring of 2001.
Some of you may have heard this story before, but we have some new Prayer Warriors, so please bear with me!
I had just finished teaching a lesson in Southwest Ranches (W of Ft. Lauderdale) and was headed home when I saw a big, black, boiling cloud in my side view mirrors. "That looks like a Supercell," I mused. "I better get home quick! Only ten miles to go. I can beat this!"
I turned North onto State Road 7 and rode smack into a TORNADO (I am NOT making this up!). I leaped off the bike and lay sprawled in the street, and looked to see Blue on its side, spinning like a food processor, grinding down the clutch lever, the hand grip, the windshield, and the gear shift lever...and Thank God NOT ME.
Suddenly, two Rastafarian guys, with white T-Shirts and dreadlocks down to their waists, lifted me off the street.
"You sure you alright, Mom? You tink you can ride dat ting home now?"
I assured them I was fine, except for a lurid case of road rash on my left arm. One of the Rastamen peeled off his immaculate white T-Shirt and wrapped it around my arm, righted the bike and put me on it. I road home stuck in 2nd gear, at 10 miles an hour in HAIL.
The next day, I laundered the T-Shirt, and attempted to return it. I went from door to door, but nobody in the neighborhood knew anyone who fit the description of the two Rastamen. I still have the T-Shirt, I still ride Blue, and I still have road rash scars on my left arm.
Some of the Egyptian Officials, upon hearing Moses' warning about the hail, rushed home to shelter all their property. This included their slaves and livestock. They heard The Word of God, and believed enough to take action. It looks like, from the text, that this wasn't a permanent thing, and that their hearts were hardened again, but the lives of some people and animals were saved by this bit of "faith in action". Perhaps it was a foreshadowing of God reaching out to the Gentiles, and this theme would continue until St. Peter has a dream on a rooftop. Like I said..."Musings".

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM! And for the Preservation of the Valiant Israeli Nation!
"The Seventh Plague Of Egypt" Illuminated Manuscript William de Brailes c. 1230

ND the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me. |
For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth.
For now I will stretch out my hand, that I may smite thee and thy people with pestilence; and thou shalt be cut off from the earth.
And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.
As yet exaltest thou thyself against my people, that thou wilt not let them go?
Behold, to morrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as hath not been in Egypt since the foundation thereof even until now.
Send therefore now, and gather thy cattle, and all that thou hast in the field; for upon every man and beast which shall be found in the field, and shall not be brought home, the hail shall come down upon them, and they shall die.
He that feared the word of the LORD among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses:
And he that regarded not the word of the LORD left his servants and his cattle in the field.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch forth thine hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beast, and upon every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.
And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt.
So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.
And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field, and brake every tree of the field.
Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no hail.
And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, I have sinned this time: the LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.
Intreat the LORD (for it is enough) that there be no more mighty thunderings and hail; and I will let you go, and ye shall stay no longer.
And Moses said unto him, As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will spread abroad my hands unto the LORD; and the thunder shall cease, neither shall there be any more hail; that thou mayest know how that the earth is the LORD's.
But as for thee and thy servants, I know that ye will not yet fear the LORD God.
And the flax and the barley was smitten: for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was bolled.
But the wheat and the rie were not smitten: for they were not grown up.
And Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread abroad his hands unto the LORD: and the thunders and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured upon the earth.
And when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders were ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants.
And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, neither would he let the children of Israel go; as the LORD had spoken by Moses.
