Pastor John Piper warns Trump's 'deadly' behavior will lead to 'destruction' in blistering post

John Piper has issued a blistering condemnation of President Donald Trump, warning Christian voters that the president's “deadly behavior” will lead the U.S. to “destruction of more kinds than we can imagine.”

On Thursday, the influential pastor and writer published what he referred to as a “long-overdue” blog post in which he pondered the implications of the 2020 election.

Piper, who pastored Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis for almost 33 years, reminded Christians that "it is not a small thing to treat lightly a pattern of public behaviors that lead to death."

He pointed out that all of these sins are mentioned in the Bible and are “deadly” enough to destroy people and entire nations.

“I think it is a drastic mistake to think that the deadly influences of a leader come only through his policies and not also through his person,” he wrote. “This is true not only because flagrant boastfulness, vulgarity, immorality, and factiousness are self-incriminating, but also because they are nation-corrupting. They move out from centers of influence to infect whole cultures.”

“The last five years bear vivid witness to this infection at almost every level of society.”

Piper questioned why some Christians seem to be sure they are “saving human lives and freedoms” by ignoring the destructive effects of a “self-absorbed, self-exalting” leader.

I always enjoyed listening to both.

“a character connection between rulers and subjects,”

Does Piper not understand that there are no “subjects” in the US,
= = =

Excellent point.

This to me is most telling about he thinks. Maybe Piper thinks himself a ‘ruler’ over ‘subjects’ in the Church?

I have attended Sunday services at John Piper’s church in Minneapolis and listened to his sermons. He always struck me as a straight-up Bible centered Christian evangelist. I wonder what happened to him.

There is a fine line. Piper crosses this line in many of this doctrines. If someone has faith, the works will be there. We know we love Him (Jesus) if we keep his commandments (I.e not practicing unrepentant sin). His spirit wont let us practice sin, and leads us to good works. As Jesus half brother James says, “Faith without works is dead”

They’re all interchangeable at this point, given the politics of the region: Baptist, Minneapolis,Muslim.....

By those standards you wouldn’t have voted for most of the men God appointed in the Bible. Trump is saintly by comparison. And ending way more wars while he’s at it.

I thank God that I didn’t vote for Mitt Romney. Piper had no problem with him though. 🙄

I thought Piper knew his bible but he apparently forgot Romans 13 about how all powers are ordained by God. Maybe Piper forgot how the prophet Isaiah wrote about how a future pagan king would rescue the Hebrew people in captivity by Babylon and provide funding so they could rebuild their temple in Jerusalem. Isaiah gave the name of Medo-Persian king, Cyrus the Great, 200 years before the king was even born. Whether or not Donald Trump is a Christian or not is immaterial, God can use him for his purposes.

Not only that, John Piper is a hard core Calvinist who believes God micromanages his creation to the point he ordains the location of every particle of dust at any given time. Piper believes man does not have free will, if a man rapes a small child God ordained it to be. Piper believes God ordains such evil for his own glory, how so is a mystery however.

So if Piper claims that God can cause the rape of a small innocent child for his own glory, I can’t see why he’s complaining about Trump.

When is John Piper going to denounce King David and his writings ? He had a high level officer kill a fellow soldier so King David could sleep with the deceased man’s wife - even The Donald hasn’t done anything like that.

Government driven Queerdom and anti biblical marriage values. Piper links these to Trump.

But Trump has done much to save the unborn and to protect Israel. Trying to promote peace.

Piper (IMHO) is an extremist anti roman catholic faction leader.

John Piper, he could be the latest pope for all I care. It boils down for me. Trump is pro life and works to protect life. Democrats, if they won’t protect the most innocent of us, why would anyone believe that they care about them.

Okay, ‘Pastor’ Piper....so when President Harris (you KNOW it’s going to happen) finds a way to repeal or restrict the 1st Amendment and shuts down your church, then starts signing bills that refer to Christian beliefs as ‘hate crimes’ and start rounding up your congregation and YOU, what will you say then?

REPENT!

I just read John Piper’s view. He’s wrong. He is weighing one sinful behavior against another equally. This belief is something that is creeping into the church. (I just left a church for saying the same thing.) There are some sins that are far worst than others. The midwives of Egypt were blessed by God for lying to Pharaoh about not murdering the Hebrew boys.

Piper has placed himself as judge and he’s not. That in itself is sinful. Does that mean I should stop listening to him? I suppose it does if it continues given that he’s a teacher.

So did you vote for Hillary in 2016 because you think she fears God?

I seriously doubt John Piper is a leftist, and he says he’s not voting for Biden, either. Be that as it may, I’m sorry, Piper, but as in 2016, Jesus isn’t on THIS ballot, either, so we’ll just have to vote for the lesser of “two weevils”, as it were. Trump is far from perfect, but even with his faults, which he takes no pains to hide, he’s far and away cleaner than the average politician, let alone the likes of a Joe Biden.
Perhaps Piper longs for the days when presidents always acted like genteel persons in public, while being just as devious as the worst, in private. I, too, would love for our society to be less raucous and foul-mouthed, and, yes, maybe our president should set an example, but he is who he is, and I’m glad he is plain spoken, and not a liar like the rest.

I’ve never liked Piper, as in for like 25 years.
