A sign of changing times from Claire Murashima, writing in the student newspaper of Calvin University (formerly Calvin College) in Grand Rapids, Michigan:
"In the 102 years that Student Senate has existed, weve never had an openly gay student body president. Its beyond time that the LGBTQ community is represented in the highest student leadership position at Calvin. Im proud to be the first.
A few years ago, I never thought that I would be coming out to the world through my school newspaper at my Christian university. I wanted to be known as the girl who started Dance Marathon and led students to raise $50,000 for our local childrens hospital, the girl who co-hosted a podcast for the Chimes, or the girl who tried out for every single hip hop dance guild and was rejected from every single one. But my legacy will invariably be different, because I am Calvin Universitys first openly LGBTQ student body president. Im bisexual. Ive also questioned if I was a lesbian in the past. Usually, I use the term queer because it encompasses all of these identities.
One things for sure: I am not straight. Im sharing my story with the community because I take the weight of representation seriously, I have a desire to lead Calvin and the CRC [the Christian Reformed Church in North America] into the future and want other queer students to see themselves in my story. Id feel as if Id made a mistake as student body president if I did not use my platform to do so."
Read it all.
The CRC are the Dutch Reformed in America. The friend who sent me that also sent along this 2018 essay by the Rev. Christopher Gordon, a pastor in one of the NAPARC (conservative Presbyterian) churches...

This is in Sardis, Michigan, right?
Or Pergamum, MI?
Grand Rapids according to the article and Wikipedia.
>>Ive also questioned if I was a lesbian in the past.
Her masters won’t permit her to seek counseling
If she has any doubts about being lesbian, they must be suppressed and any discussion with another person to explore heterosexuality is considered “offensive”.
*sigh*
So tired of hearing from every tiny community about their issues and problems. I really think that we get it now.
Someone here said that it’s “The love that won’t shut up,” a play on Oscar Wilde’s famous “The love that dare not speak its name.”
Revelation 3
1 And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.
2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.
3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.
4 Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.
5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
6 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
So she likes women? So do I. But I control my impulses.
“Calvin College” sounds better. The new name makes it sound less distinctive for some reason.
Oh my dog (sic)
The filth is everywhere.
And perverts embrace it and hold it dear.
Well she’s got Total Depravity going for her.
You should go on into the church at Thyatira
She’s also on the bad side of double predestination.
“You should go on into the church at Thyatira”
That could apply.
Rev 2
18 And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass; 19 I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first. 20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. 21 And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. 22 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. 23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works. 24 But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden. 25 But that which ye have already hold fast till I come. 26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: 27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. 28 And I will give him the morning star. 29 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
The CRC went off the rails years ago when it started ordaining women. As someone said, every denomination that ordains women will eventually ordain homosexuals.
When the CRC started ordaining women, several congregations left and started the URC (United Reformed Church). It is faithful to the Reformed faith.
The PCA is on a slippery slope, and it doesn’t portend well for the future. The OPC (Orthodox Presbyterian Church) is still on the right path, and I pray they continue to be faithful to the Word of God. We are members of an OPC church.
That whirring sound you hear is Calvin spinning in his grave. I wish they would change the name, but they love mocking those opposed to their perversion.
Edwin Palmer must also be turning over in his grave. Palmer was “very Calvin of very Calvin”, but he was totally wrong about double predestination.
At one time, the CRC was more Calvinistic than Calvin.
Matthew 7:22-23 is applicable here. Wait till she meets the guy who says that Gods word didn’t mean to outlaw rape and murder.
Now that’s hard to do! :-)
Want to know the only 2 jokes for Calvinists I know?
A Calvinist fell down the stairs, got up, and said, “I’m glad that’s over.”
If the Calvinist flower is the tulip, then the Arminian flower must be the daisy... He loves me, He loves me not, He loves me, He loves me not....
Hey, I didn’t say they were knee-slappers.
