Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds

.

Genesis 49

The Death of Jacob

29 Then he gave them these instructions: “I am about to be gathered to my people. Bury me with my fathers in the cave in the field of Ephron the Hittite, 30 the cave in the field of Machpelah, near Mamre in Canaan, which Abraham bought along with the field as a burial place from Ephron the Hittite. 31 There Abraham and his wife Sarah were buried, there Isaac and his wife Rebekah were buried, and there I buried Leah. 32 The field and the cave in it were bought from the Hittites.[p]”

33 When Jacob had finished giving instructions to his sons, he drew his feet up into the bed, breathed his last and was gathered to his people.

New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)

Jacob's final instructions are that he must be buried in the Cave of Machpelah, with his ancestors.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our God,
How Wonderful,
How Excellent,
How Glorious is Your Most Holy Name!
How True is Your Word, and How Mighty!
How Glorious, to Span the Millennia,
To be Unfettered by Time and Space,
To Know The End from the Beginning
and the Beginning from The End!
Because, Indeed, You ARE The Beginning and the End of All Things!
For it is You, Oh LORD,
Who designed the Galaxies with Your Compass,
And Mapped Out the Vast Reaches of Space With Your Word
and Your Omniscient Imagination!
Scientists tell us even the heavens are finite.
But YOU are Infinite!

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Avi made the phone call, and was given permission to bring two busloads of Christian Pilgrims to Hebron to visit the Cave of Machpelah. The huge edifice, made of Herodian stonework, sat atop the grave of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and was smack dab in the middle of the disputed and often violent West Bank.

The actual cave was under the building which housed both a Mosque and a Jewish Synagogue. Unfortunately, you had to go THROUGH the Mosque to go into the Synagogue, which made it awkward. After removing our shoes, we climbed an ancient narrow staircase that led up to the mosque area which contained huge tomb-like structures dedicated to the Patriarchs and their wives. Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebecca, Jacob and Leah. There was nothing for Ishmael, Esau, Hagar, or even Rachel (Rachel is buried near Bethlehem, and I visited her tomb too).

What we didn't realize at the time was that these structures were not the actual Tombs of the Patriarchs. They were what are called "cenotaphs" and are merely memorial structures. The actual bodies were buried in the cave below. And so, the structures in the mosque were empty. Or perhaps...not so empty. As I walked across the carpet in my bare feet, I could not help but feel an oppressive heaviness that seemed to be pushing me down to the floor. It made me want to run as fast as I could to get out of there! My feet started going faster, but I couldn't push against the tour group, so my feet were going faster than my body. I started to pray, putting on the garment of praise to dispel the spirit of heaviness. Suddenly, my feet took me through the door to the synagogue, and the pressure dissipated. I took a deep breath and took some pictures of the interior of the synagogue.

I felt that weird pressure only two other times in my life, but that was the first time I encountered it. The second time was standing in the pouring rain on the Temple Mount, about to enter The Dome of the Rock. I had already taken off my shoes and was about to go into the doorway when I was blocked by an invisible force field of the same spirit that had infested the Mosque of the Patriarchs. I told my husband I could not go in. He said that we'd probably never get the chance again. "Too Bad," I said, "I'm not going in there." And so we didn't.

The third encounter was in the Virginia War Museum. In the gallery dedicated to WW2, there was a concrete and steel gate that I wanted to look at more closely, but the instantly recognized oppressive "force field" kept me at arms length. I looked at the card identifying the item. It was a gate from Dachau Concentration Camp. I shuddered and moved on.

Now this is not meant to be a spooky story, but merely to show that we battle not against flesh and blood, but against unseen forces that battle us every day. If the enemy is spiritual, then our weapons must be spiritual as well. That's where the Gifts, the Fruit, and the Counsel of The Holy Spirit come in. In all three instances, when I encountered the evil one (and I believe it was a spirit of antisemitism), my first instinct was to PRAY.

Last week, when our President was attacked by "The Invisible Enemy", the prayer response was amazing. It was a hard thing for the media to ignore, and now President Trump seems healthier than ever.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America!

Wow!

The Spirit world is real.

There were times when I felt spooked like that.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and in the battle for the soul of our beloved America.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

"The Twelve Tribes of Israel"
Johannes Adam Simon Oertel (1823 – 1909)

_
LL these are the twelve tribes of Israel: and this is it that their father spake unto them, and blessed them; every one according to his blessing he blessed them. <

And he charged them, and said unto them, I am to be gathered unto my people: bury me with my fathers in the
cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite,
In the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field of Ephron the Hittite for a possession of a buryingplace.

There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife; there they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife; and there I buried Leah.

The purchase of the field and of the cave that is therein was from the children of Heth.

And when Jacob had made an end of commanding his sons, he gathered up his feet into the bed, and yielded up the ghost, and was gathered unto his people.

We pray in particular on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Libya and throughout the Mideast. The members of the oldest of our Christian Communities, some of which date from the days of the Apostles, suffer under cruel, merciless and unrelenting persecution. They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."

"Omniscient Imagination!"

Perfect! Expresses exactly what I've been fumbling around to articulate about Him, so I thank you. Also, an exquisite name for a Christian band.

Glad you don't ignore or minimize spiritual warfare. Indeed, with this daily prayer thread, with its personal essays, you are in the vanguard: I salute you, and it is in that spirit that I offer my Amen.

The area around the Colosseum is oppressive for me, it feels so dark and heavy. I grew up in Rome and have been back many, many times but I have never been able to go inside the Colosseum. Even as a child I would cry and drag my father away.

Joining in prayer. God bless.

Thank you for your kind, encouraging words, Dear Hebrews 11:6!

I was in a Christian Band for 7 years...we were called “SALT”.

Not quite as awesome as “Omniscient Imagination”, but, of course, it was easier to remember. :-)
