This is kinda cool to find out, though. I wonder how long it was practiced before Judaism became a thing.

At what time frame were the Jews supposed to be in Egypt?

well, Judaism or Hebrew-ism? I differentiate the two as

Hebrew-ism - the religion of Abraham through Isaac, Jacob all the way down to Solomon.

then it splits into Samaritanism and Judaism -- the Samaritans still exist in Israel today and they hold to only the first 5 books (the Pentateuch) and reject the prophets as "innovations"

Then Judaism becomes 2nd temple Judaism and you have Sadducees who hold ONLY to the Written Torah and the Prophets. And the Pharisees who hold to the Written AND Oral Torah and the Prophets

After the destruction of the temple only two sects of 2nd temple Judaism survived

1. the pharisees - who take the written torah, the prophets and add the oral Torah (the Talmud) --> note that the Pharisee Tanakh and the Sadducee Tanakh would have had slight differences in which books were considered

2. the Jesus movement - these became the "Christians"
